Hitchens is an eloquent, well researched mainstream journalist and commentator, the point he is making is contained in the text.

Are you literate? Try re-reading what I wrote before insulting me. I am defending the type of behavior you described as having NO bearing on whether one is more or "less of a man". What are YOU reading?

I reread it several times. I refer you to the quoted text. What you said was either a direct insult to me or it was a stupid idea that shouldn't have made it into print. You think because I wore a tutu to be spanked that I am a lesser man all the time and it must show in my life. If you would like to step outside, I would like to disenfranchise you of that opinion with a swift punch on the nose.
I don't think I misread what you posted, I think it was a crass would-be generalisation and you don't appear to have read what I wrote.

You misread his post.

He was breaking down Brosse6's post and challenging the underlying assumptions behind it. Not saying his own beliefs.

To answer the OP's question: No.

But damn this thread has been entertaining!

I have to agree with njrick on both counts but I also think all aggrieved parties should call it a draw and walk away. I would hate for bickering to make the forum go the way of the writing challenges!

OK, so you are literate. Then comprehension must be your problem.

Brosse claimed a spanked man who does it only occasionally is still manly. My point is that the inherent nature of being submissive is "unmanly" but not something that makes one "less of a man". I even said that frilly panties and the like......something I do frequently with my wife.....is fun BECAUSE it toys with what is considered traditionally "manly". In fact that distinction, between "manly" and "being less of a man" is the entire crux of my point. Now I admit this is nuance, and from your posts so far I fear it may be above your head, but I am hopeful if you give it some effort you might manage to see what my post meant.

You are also focusing on one line in one post in an entire series addressed to another person whose arguments ARE way more in line with what you are accusing me of. Perhaps if you began from the beginning you would stop threatening me......and maybe be "man" enough to apologize.

Of course you agree with me. That's because I'm so agreeable. And to prove it, i'll second your motion for everyone to stop their bickering. Instead, how about people just go read some of the new stories just loaded.

I would not say that a gay man is "less of a man". He just has a "different" idea of what is fun. And for the same reason I would not say that a male spankee is "less of a man". I also would not even say that gay men or male spankees are "less manly". The distinction between "less of a man" and "less manly" is so subtle that it almost eludes me. And even though I see a subtle distinction I would not want to hurt anybody´s feelings by bringing it up.

Unless someone provides a working definition of "man," this whole conversation is going to keep going in circles.

The problem is that definitions are far more subjective these days. Also are asking for a definition of Man or a definition of Masculinity?
