Another difference betweem American and British English, I see. Pantyhose being called tights over there.
Here, we think of tights as either a heavier thicker undergarment as opposed to thinner pantyhose. Or as the outfits worn for exercise or dance. Like the spandex full length tights favored by runners.
Tights are sexy-and notice that one letter would turn "spandex" into "spankex." And of course there is the delightfully named popular Spanx.

I never thought that "Pantyhose" were call "tights" in the UK. How interesting. I can't see them as being "tights." "Pantyhose" is really "Hose." As REDSKINLUVER points out, it would be some form of outfit worn for dancing or exercise. In the UK, what are these outfits called? Are they also tights?
Regardless, I really hate "pantyhose" on women. I like bare legs. In the Winter time, I would have an argument.

I hate "tights-pantyhose", too. I can't think of any piece of clothing of women, which is less sexy.
For me a woman has to wear long stockings, without suspenders and silly girdle.

@ saetana
so you see there are more than one man who don't like them.

I've always found that I get nasty rope burns and very smelly hands covered in seaweed when I try to spank a fishnet. Only did it once.

Here's how I understand how the word is used, Sebastian (and if I am mistaken, I hope someone will let me know). Here in the US of A, the words "pantyhose" and "tights" refer to similar garments; a form of hosiery that covers the entire lower half of the body from waist to toes. The difference is that pantyhose are made out of a sheer fabric, while tights are made out of an opaque fabric. Over across the pond in Jolly Old England, they use the word "tights" to refer to both.

Did I get that right?

Yes, that sounds correct to me, us Brits use "tights" to refer to any hosiery that covers the whole lower half of the body (you can get crotchless tights but that is soooo tacky) regardless of thickness, they could be, say, really thin 7 denier or as thick as the 70 denier Lycra tights I wear under short skirts (as I said earlier, almost leggings) which are similar to workout or dance tights (although those are more often footless). I always assumed that the Americans used "pantyhose" in the same way as we use "tights", interesting to hear that is not the case

O. K. I now understand. It does make sense. Regardless, I hate Pantyhose. In the Summer, women usually have no pantyhose, so this is my favorite season.

Sebastian. I hope for your sake that there are no pantyhose fetish people on the site. I agree whole heartily with you and have been known to rip them forcefully from subby's of mine. And wearing them is a spankable offense of course. But the god's of porn say that such men exist. They devote whole web sites to them and they seem quite fierce. Perhaps we should repair to the nearest bunker with a bottle or four of Pink's single malts and discuss literature till the heats off.

Saetanna. Thanks for introducing me to the word 'denier' as a measurement of textiles in general. I am more knowledgeable tonight than yesterday thanks to you. Linear mass density of fibers defined as the mass in grams per 9,000 meters. That explains many things. I will have to see how this works out for my bag of bondage ropes, both cotton & hemp. I'm sure my buddie Twisted Monk will know. It would also be kool to find out the reaction of my subbies to the sting of a paddle through 7 vs 70 denier of fabric. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

A major research project is indicated, don't you think?
