I must confess to sometimes writing stories that unsettle some people, not so much for their cruelty but for their setting. And I'll make no qualms about putting the boot into hyper-controlling religious fundamentalism. I've written stories about Christians, Wiccans, Animists, Satanists and, as I said, Muslims. There's always someone it upsets .. guaranteed. Nonetheless, I would draw the line at concentration camps and so forth. I'm into discipline and cp, not torture-porn.

Okay, that's what I meant. It's just that I automatically connect "Sharia in Nigeria" with stoning people for adultery and not with discipline and cp. Your stories aren't unsettling for me.

Blimey, I've scanned through these pages and wonder why on earth anyone has written anything. it's always good to be critical of one's own work and of course to challenge oneself. In my limited experience, I often find there are several factors that come into play when writing. If your mood is not particularly brilliant and not very happy then it is likely this will be reflected in your writing. Conversely, when one is very happy and life is a bowl of cherries, one the writes differently.

One's writing changes with experience. With the amount of stories that are churned out in this library from time to time I'm sure most of us will have one that we feel isn't one of our finest, that's just life!

I don't like stories about torture and brutal discipline or teen (and adult) bulling.

But sometimes in the larger context of a story's plot, bullying or harsh punishment may have a point. In good stories there is conflict. There is frequently a protagonist and an antagonist. Perhaps a wrong must be righted, but in order to make the resolution satisfying, the wrong must be seen as substantial. It sets up the essential conflict.

Now if it's just a harsh scene described for its own sake, or to invite the reader to revel in the cruelty, Sebastian has a point. Many of us are disturbed by cruel scenes that have no purpose except to attempt to appeal to some pretty base instincts.

When the story calls for it, I have had some fairly severe non-consensual scenes. My historical stories, for example. But they are there as a foil to set up the eventual plot resolution. And one thing about such scenes is that they have to be somewhat severe, just like villains have to be really bad for the reader to appreciate the resolution of the conflict.

For some it's a way of life In Real Life. Yes, for some In Real Life there is what we might call brutality and torture. Why do these couples stay together? Someone must evidently like it. However, in a story such as Rollin presents, his character can up and leave at any time. His character could have probably punched Paulette in the nose real hard and walked out. Her eyes would have been tearing and nose bleeding to badly to make chase. But. . . that's not the case. So, Amy must like it. It's fiction. It's what some people like to read, while others grab their torches and pitchforks and head for Doctor Authorstein's run down castle. I refuse to read past a RAPE scene, but I will not brow beat or put that author down in the eyes of hundreds of other readers by making a rude or cutting comment. I did so in one, because of the RAPE content, but never again.

I did in one of Grace's stories, but I'm actually glad I did. I got the nicest pop-up from Grace with apologies for a disturbing story in MY eyes. We exchanged a few pop-ups and I found a very caring and loving person behind that persona. I changed my tune quick.

Please don't stop commenting, but please don't take these stories to seriously. They are for entertainment purposes, and they don't always entertain everyone every time.
