This might be a well trodden path as things go but I'm curious what kinds of stories are different spanking authors best for? Who writes the most playful stories? Who is good for grave and serious? How about the strangest and most bizarre stories? Who does paranormal the best? Who would you look for when you're in the mood for some thing sweet or romantic? Which authors write the best banter between spanker and spankee?

What do you look for in a story and which authors fill that space for you?

Interesting topic, because most of the classifications are different from those you can use the search function for (playful, grave & serious, bizarre, banter). Of course, having tried them all as an author, I must, in complete modesty, admit that I'm best at all of them.

Rick is right, of course, as he is a very versatile writer, but first and foremost I think of him as the master of humoristic and romantic stories, often with a quite surprising twist. If you want to give him competition, you may try PhilK.

Other names that come to mind are Bashful Bob for wild and crazy (but somehow quite plausible) serials about the dangers of settled, suburban life; Blimp for the intense and lopsided battles between female teachers and their lovesick students; and JessicaK for psychological family sagas. For the bizarre, I think Barretthunter is hard to beat (especially if the bizarre includes an oversize bottom), and I enjoy stevenr's stories for their adherence to everyday life. If you want erotic encounters between teenage schoolgirls, TheEnglishMaster is hard to beat, as is Gail for intense relationships between more mature women. Spanking Theatre is probably the most artsy author here, and I have always loved Carolina Jim for his creation of a world of teenagers and mothers where spankings work exactly the way spankos think they do.

And then there are all the writers I haven't read, and those that are so good at everything that they are hard to classify, like Flopsybunny, Susan Thomas, Neil, and Alan Barr.

I would also add mj2001 to the list as he writes about everyday life, but also put's people in different circumstances then examines how they get through them, all from the point of view that a good spanking will cure lots of ills.

Alef has provided a very thorough list but is being modest, of course, by not promoting himself. He’s a wonderful author too, particularly with his exploration of the human psyche and emotions.

The Czeck author Fulgur is really good at writing spanking fetish-related stories with clever "gimmicks". I cannot really define what I mean by "gimmick", but many of his stories feature some form of "magic" or supernatural ellements or fantasies. And virtually all of Fulgur´s stories have a twist which surprises and delights. Also humour!

I've always loved the mix of humour and sensuality in ruegirl's stories. Good long spankings too, described in deliciously evocative detail.

I concur with all of the above opinions, i would like to add the stories by Lisa Berry, for me they 'hit the mark'.

The author creates wonderful often evocative scenarios aided by good dialogue and traditional type CP, all within short uncomplicated stories, no frills just mighty little reads, the serial Corset Shop Discipline being a fine example of the authors work.

I CAN'T agree with all of the above opinions as I haven't read that many stories by various authors.

As a reader, I like light hearted to medium MF/F (all adult, although young adult spankees preferred) disciplinary spankings, "desired" or hesitantly accepted discipline, with fairly lengthy stories to submerge myself into the authors world, with modern realistic to scifi leanings and detailed spankings (this is meant to express that a spanking is described by something more than "she got spanked" as the story moves on to other "more interesting" details). Heavy leanings towards little to no onomatoepoeia ("spank spank spank spank spank" as a description of action). This last is a strong desire that is rarely satistisfied. I don't like whipping, cropping, or switches, but prefer hand, belt, with paddle last but negligently acceptable. However please note I am exceedingly picky, and base my recommends on more factors than just one label and that's why I can't list a "best at scifi" or other simple placeholders. Also I prefer stories from the point of view from the spankee first, third person perspective, and spanker least.

Also worth noting, I find writers like NJRick (sorry Rick but you put yourself out there and thus became a perfect example for me to use. Nothing personal) least appreciable because they try to cater to many, and thus write more about what I am least interested in. So, I might like one or two stories of theirs, and that is all, thus I don't return to read more.

That said, I would recommend Susan Thomas first and foremost, followed by DJ Black, Gloup, Flatfish, Mark Hall, and Richard Windsor in that order.

For me, a story doesn't have to be finely crafted to be appreciable, but simply have a well thought out storyline that seems plausible. Nor have I read every story by each of my list, so there might be hit and miss in their stories.
It might be worth noting that all authors have a progression, and earlier creative attempts might not be as good as later works, and since my reading list is more scattered than others, thus my recommends might be off basis, because of my reading list.

John Benson always seemed to have a knack for futuristic dystopian tales as well as for stories involving the mystical.
