Surprised no one has mentioned Grace Brackenridge. While I don't much go in for stories with younger kids getting spanked, as opposed to bratty teens, there can be no disagreement with the skill and talent she brings to depicting adult/child dynamics,
An author I miss is derrtrichard. First encountered him when I discovered BaredAffair back on the old SIN site, and later in the Yahoo and MSN groups he was involved with. Of course we still have Seegee who has graced us with some of his BaredAffair material.

I'd love to see more of your fantasy stories here. I've tried writing a few myself, since I love that theme, but they rarely do any well, so I haven't submitted that many.

I'm working on a few more of those. Alas, I keeping switching from story to story.

I don't feel that anyone is absolutely best for a specific type of story. Rather, most of the authors here have at least one stunning submission each, but it doesn't necessarily have to be of the same type as they usually write. I checked my view list, which is slightly more than 2200 stories and ranked them according to author and which ones I had favorited. The authors I had given most favs (15) were Goodgulf and Flogmaster, followed by (14) Flopsybunny and Sir Cambornek, then (13) Flatfish and Grace Brackenridge, (12) Imreadonly2, (11) Bashfulbob and (10) DJ Black and John Benson. I looked at the stories and I can't see any pattern really and my favs were not following any specific plot type among any of the authors and the stories I liked are not necessarily typical for the authors mentioned. So I don't feel that anyone is the best for a certain type of story. Everybody can shine in any kind of story.

What I did notice when looking at the past 100 submissions on site though, is that mj2001 is the by far most read author. He has seven stories among the top ten most read out of the latest 100 submissions. Three of those are also among the top ten favorited stories out of the hundred. His dominance is massive, which must say something about how good you are at presenting different scenarios.

To aire the voice of opposition (yeah, who'd of thunk it?), there have been many (?) mainstream writers for many years who have segregated their stories by taking up a third or more nombe de plume for different genre of stories, the most vivid example to me being Anne Rice who wrote the erotic trilogy of Sleeping Beauty.

Just saying, there must be a reason or rationale' that successful writers made the choice, and probably not lightly.

I guess it was something which they really wanted to do, but the world can be quite unforgiving for anyone who tries to step outside the boundries where they first appeared or have been recognized within. To shift from books to music I can think of Gary Moore who was exposed to a shit storm not of this world when coming out as a blues player after his rock career, or Bob Dylan when picking up the electric guitar. In particular when it comes to erotic aspects, it can be rather difficult to not tarnish your brand and you have to hide under another name.

I know of one author who currently uses 3 names to write under. She publishes urban fantasy under her actual name, her horror work under another one and she's recently added a 3rd as a fictional author mentioned of the author of in one of her other works.

I recently discovered that Andrew Offutt - a great fantasy / sci fi author - had kept his kids fed by writing porn. Including Playboy's "Spaceways" series. Here's a link that gives several of the names that he used. It's written by his son who had to go through his father's office after his father's death and has a lot of family stories.

Great article. Yes, I recall reading his Conan novel, The Sword of Skelos, when I was a kid. It's strikingly good, surpassing Robert E Howard's original novels and it has quite a sensual tone to it with plenty of bondage and whippings and the comic book adaptation contains a brief spanking as well.

So, based on that, can we all expect to come out as master authors one day...?

Robert E Howard himself wrote a spanking story - 'Hi-Hat' - that was published in his college magazine.
i read it in an anthology of 'stories by people who you didn't know wrote those kinds of stories', which also included a murder mystery by Abraham Lincoln, and science fiction by Dashiell Hammett.

Was it any good? It sounds like a tempting read.
