Goodgulf:
I've seen the sticks used in Olympics Hockey. If you've seen Ice Hockey, then the Olympics Hockey only look a bit like those sticks - they are much shorter and the blade doesn't look like an ice hockey stick. I could easily see some using one of those field hockey sticks to deliver a spanking.
Well, that explains it. As a good Canadian, I'm sure you're mad for hockey, as are most Canadians, seemingly. A lot of us are too (not me though) and ICE hockey is a very popular sport in both countries. When I hear "hockey" my mind automatically goes to Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe. However field hockey and ice hockey are two very different games. Ice hockey is, of course, an Olympic sport, in the Winter games. I should have known that, in the Summer games, it would have to be something else. Having said that, I
suppose one could use a field hockey stick to deliver a spanking, but it would be rather unwieldy. Really not what I would describe as a "paddle" though, though I suppose you could use it as one. Perhaps by the coaches after a less than satisfactory game to "encourage" some of the less enthusiastic players...
