A classmate described her spanking

Sadly, there were teachers worse than the one my classmate described. I used to stay with an elderly man when his son went out of state on business. This man was a retired teacher who was personally a kind and gentle man. He was proud of having never spanked a child in his 40 years as an educator. Some of the teachers at his school, though were really bad. He told of a principal who worked for the school during World War II. he would walk into a classroom, grab a kid by the front of his shirt with one hand, and slap his face with the other. The kid hadn't done anything wrong. The principal was a sadistic bully who enjoyed hurting people. He got away with it, because so many people were serving in the armed forces that the school needed warm bodies to fill positions. Even so, the guy only lasted one school year as principal. He went too far when he knocked down another teacher who was handicapped.

My Dad told stories of an elderly brother at one of his schools. He was largely senile, but he'd come into a classroom and sweep his stick around without warning, if you didn't duck it hit you. He rarely hit anyone, the boys all had quick reflexes, but this was seen as a fun sort of thing back then.

Until someone loses an eye.

A female friend told the story of her 8th grade punishment, she was playing before class with a fellow, the kid locked her in the closet. After class started, the nun found her and put her over her knee and spanked her over her skirt. This was 1968, she told her parents but they thought that she deserved it. She remember the incident thirty years later, she laughed about it.

All this talk about Catholic schools reminds me of a story told by Mike Warnke. When he was a boy, he was placed in a foster home. His foster parents were very religious protestants who taught him that a person would go to Hell for being a Catholic. Then the courts removed him from that foster home and placed him in another foster home where his new foster parents were Catholics. They sent him to a Catholic school where he was taught by nuns. He concluded the story by saying, "If you ever have a chance to tell a nun she's going to Hell for being a Catholic, don't do it. Because I tried it, and you won't like it."
He didn't give any details, but I would guess he got a sound spanking. He went on to tell of how, as an adult, he was once the head of a coven of 1500 Satanists. Then he was kicked out of the Satanists for excessive drug use. Every one had given up on him, except for a nun who was one of his teachers years before. She continued to pray for him by name every day. Mike eventually turned his life over to God.

Mike Warnke was a fraud. I don't believe any part of his alleged testimony. Here is my evidence:

I have a crazy one, I did not have this nun in 5th grade, she taught the other 5th grade class and was spank crazy. My close friend who I walked to school with most days told me something might set her off a random wink or whisper and she would be paddle crazy for the rest of the day. She would line up all the boys and have them spank the girls with her hand paddle and then the girls would spank the boys. She carried a small wooden paddle on the same string as her rosary beads so it was always handy for a brisk hand paddling if she became irritated. She had a larger paddle she stored in the bookroom that she used on bottoms. She was tall and muscular and I heard she packed a mean wallop! One day I passed her room and the entire class was out in the hall standing waiting to be paddled. It's a wonder they passed their end of year exams.

I grew up in a spanking public school, but what happened there was nothing compared to the stories I heard of mean nuns in local Catholic schools and the punishments their students had to endure.

Later, I heard scary stories about the discipline in Texas public schools, because spanking was (perhaps is) so accepted there.

Putting those two thoughts together makes one wonder what a Texas Catholic school was like!

I went to a boarding school in the mid-1960s when the cane was still in use. One night some of us boys were definitely too loud and the house master came into our room to investigate. He took one of the culprits away and administered the maximum punishment he could - twenty-four with the cane on the bare and immediate expulsion the next day. The boy was caned and then spent the time in the school's infirmary until his parents came to get him. Needless to say it was a very quiet couple of weeks after that.

24? And then he was expelled for being loud? Oh My God! When I came an got my child the house master would have taken his place in the infirmary. That's just brutal with no excuse for it. Wow!
