If anyone has seen the film Ted there's a rather amusing sequence where Mark Wahlberg's character references every female 'white trash' name he can think of when trying to guess his friend Ted's new girlfriend's name. I don't know if I should mention that Ted is actually a large talking teddy bear.

I used the name Grace for my story, "Next Time For Miss Scott's Paddle," because it was a sequel to Grace Brackenridge's story, "Last Time For Miss Scott's Paddle." The sequel was written with her kind permission. I used the name Tommy for my characters in " Bad Pie Recipe" and "Tommy's Essay," because I was called Tommy when I was a boy. I guess I wanted to identify with the person being spanked. I would also like to acknowledge that I borrowed the concept from the aforementioned Doctor Grace. BTW, how's that for shamelessly plugging my stories.

I have noticed that a number of female authors often use their names, or at least their pen names, for the heroine in the story but male authors rarely use their name for a character. It seems to be a gender difference.

drkeate: your question about a name for an Amazon queen. How about Pelagia? This might bother Catholics, as the Pelagian heresy was an early heresy promoted by a learned man called Pelagius. But "pelagic" is a term used for wildlife such as birds if they wander the seas rather than hugging the shorelines, and that would seem to suit an Amazon.

Names for Amazonian Queens - I'm sure I remember Panthesilea as the name of a celebrated real-life warrior queen - not sure if she was Amazonian, though.

Incidentally, have you heard the new definition of Amazonia from 'Afterliff'?

For an Amazonian Queen you could use Hippolyta, who was the queen of the Amazons in A Midsummer Night's Dream. I also rather like Ranavalona, who was the ruler of Madagascar in the 19th century and she was often referred to as Amazonian.

Whilst on the subject of Amazons, (not classical ones but metaphorical) I used the name Callipygia Bottomley for one such woman who Bertie Wooster meets in Jeeves and the Cunning Plan. That my the second shameless plug of the day.
