Everything is fine with me. Even with all of the trees surrounding me, none came down. I also have my electricity and water. I was very fortunate. But, many parts of my area have no electric.

We have just been informed that Don Landhill is fine, though right now he is without a reliable internet connection.

I'm sure he will be back on site when he can.

Good luck to everyone affected by this brutal storm. Keep safe,
flopsy

Those of us to escaped injuries and the other hardships will still get to wait in the hour-long queues for buying gasoline.

You did remember to fill your tank before the storm...right?

We live in hurricane country, so we prepare to a level that wouldn't make sense where you live. We actually store gas before every season so we have a couple tanks of gas to carry us through that time (or to evacuate if necessary). Our generator runs from our natural gas pipe, so no standing in line to fill my 5-gallon can! We also have a solar system for part of our house so we don't need to run the generator just to have lights.

I most certainly did. But my job requires me to be at work even during the emergency, and to use my car on the job. So a full tank doesn't last very long.

flowerchild:
Good Morning everyone! We are all fine. We were lucky in that we got very little rain here, so there will be no flooding. A small town next to us is only just recovering from last years devastation from flooding. A few days without electricity is minor for those who lost everything to five feet of water. I have heard that almost 80% of my town is without electric at this time, and there are many trees down, roads are blocked, but my personal space is high and dry and with all our facilities.
One of the town's wells is across the street from me, and I can hear their generators working, so the power outages are close.
Like Rick said, the Jersey shore is gone, the beaches and the boardwalks. Parts of Manhattan are under water, including I have heard, that the 9/11 Memorial sight is flooded. 50 homes in Queens, NY are on fire, flames fanned by the high winds spread it from one to the other.
I'm glad to hear we here at the library are all safe and sound. fc
PS, thanks to Guy, for suggesting I fill the bathtub with water, for flushing. It was the one thing I hadn't thought of, and though I didn't need it, I discovered my bathtub doesn't hold water overnight. At least half of it has drained away. lol.

Following on from flowerchild's earlier post where she informed us all was well and she still had "all her facilities" ... she later sent us a message via a borrowed IPad. The situation now is that she has no phones, computers, or television.

Poor flowerchild. Hope you get back to normal very soon.

Usually we have fall storms that leave us without electricity for a week, a basement full of water, a furnace that needs to be replaced and a island full of water that is 2-4 feet deep. We are much further south than Bendover and sitting in the Potomac River on an island.
This year the full moon and high tide conspired to save us from flooding; it was truly a miracle. High tide came and was on it's way out well before the wind shifted to push the water up into our creek and cause flooding. What a relief.
I am so happy to know all of you are safe. My heart goes out to everyone who suffered this week

I was stationed in Piney Point, Maryland while serving as a boarding officer in the Coast Guard. I can relate to what IC is saying. I can remember moving around the roads in rowboats at times. Where I am now, I have to say that we have had worse T-Storms than Sandy brought. When the storm shifted west, the rain was steady but not torrential. I'm still glad I had the sand bags just in case. My heart goes out to those farther north for the pounding they took. It's going to take millions of dollars to clean up the mess Sandy left.

I'm just glad all my friends here and in BL have come up safe and sound. A life can't be replaced, but a piece of furniture can. Please be careful of the standing water and the downed lines. I'm sure the electric companies have seen to them, but one never knows.

I live in Louisville, and the storm really hasn't affected me. The parts of Kentucky that have been affected the most are to the east, along the KY/WV border. I've heard that they've been hit with several inches of snow.

I'm in a close suburb of New York City. I still do not have power or heat. Con Ed is now saying we might get both back around 11/9. Still - because my house is dark and cold, but otherwise unaffected - I consider myself lucky compared to a lot of the other people who lost houses, possessions and even lives, just a few miles away.

Personally, we are fine. We are staying with some relatives, who got power back a few days ago. I only agreed to do so because I knew if I didn't get access to electricity/internet before 11/9, there would be no way I could read all 94 entries in the LSF story challenge before the closing date (I've read 5 so far - 89 left to go). Now that is dedication! (Not looking for a medal, or applause. Okay, maybe some applause. . .

Now, back to story number 6.
