Jonathan Hemlock in The Eiger Sanction threatens to spank 2 women, but never follows through on either occasion.

There are many children's books that mention "normal for the time period" spankings of children in earlier times, but I'm not sure if these can be mentioned here.

The strapping in Outlander is one of my favorites.

Two SF writers with multiple spanking references scattered throughout their novels: Sharon Green and Robert Heinlein. Green's 'Haughty Spirit' includes numerous M/F spanking scenes, and there's a good one in Heinlein's 'I Will Fear no Evil'.

The British romance novelist R F Delderfield also included a good many spanking references and actual spankings in her novels: try 'Mr Sermon' or 'Theirs Was the Kingdom'. And Joyce MacIver's 'The Exquisite Thing' features numerous spanking scenes, one of them lasting no less than six pages. Exquisite indeed!

This, complied by Steve Carson at Spanking Life, is the most comprehensive list of spanking scenes and references in 'straight' novels that I know of. Includes M/F, F/M, M/M and F/F.

Lots of spanking references in Ian Fleming's James Bond novels but no actual spankings unfortunately. One I remember in Thunderball James Bond threatens to spank Miss Moneypenny so she will have sit on dunlopillo. She replies "on carrot juice". James Bond is being sent to a health farm. A similar conversation is also in the film I believe.

In the film, Miss Moneypenny is safely on the other side of a telephone connection when she teases James Bond about him being unable to "put you [her] across my [his] knee," as he's threatened to, due to his health-club diet.

Bond does dish out a couple single smacks to feminine derrieres in the motion pictures, I recall him moderately slapping his female masseuse's bottom in "Goldfinger" and doing likewise (albeit a bit more forcefully) to another woman in a different early film, however offhand I don't recollect which one.

Of course, today that might be considered 'sexual harassment,' but back then Bond got away with a lot during his dealings with women...

Philk, thanks for that reference. My guess is the source for that listing is our own LSF library!!

Yep, that's right. That site got the information from us. To see the info in LSF, simply enter the author name of my friend Steve Richardson. You'll see that back in 2010, Steve loaded his complete list into our library.

Thank you, Steve!

May I offer "By the sword divided" by John Hawkesworth. Set in the run up to the second English Civil War the characters are all working out which side they are on. In the first episode of the TV version (about 48 mins in), a young woman hides to avoid meeting her proposed husband in an arranged marriage, causing much embarrassment. There's a pretty good bottom caning which sounded as if it was actually done over plenty of padding. Funnily enough, in the book version (which I only read one scene from) the girl was disappointingly beaten on her back.

I am really surprised Stephen King is not on that list, as there are spanking references in several of his novels.
One actual spanking that sounds more like a hard whipping or beating in Salem's Lot. A husband catches his wife about to have sex with another man. Not much description of the actual punishment but a passage about how the next day she is eating her dinner standing because "she was still too sore to sit down." Also mentions he flushed her birth control pills and then raped her.
In The Tommyknockers a passage about a man telling a woman he will have to give her a whipping, and another passage says to himself that she will "take her meals standing for the next two or three days."
In Thinner which King wrote under the name Richard Bachman a Mafia figure is talking about seeing a girl walking with her boyfriend who has his hand in the back pocket of her shorts "feeling her ass." He says that if that had been his daughter "she would not have sat down on what her boyfriend was feeling for a week and a half."
May be references in other King novels, but these are the ones I recall at the moment.

King seemed to have a bit of a pre occupation with domestic violence. There are references to it in many of his books.

I know it's a selection of three but the problem is that I simply don't remember the titles. So, a brief description. 1) Kid's book. The girl has a shrunken witch problem. Witch causes all sorts of mayhem so her Daddy spanks her. Witch causes more problems & Mommy says she told Daddy that spanking wouldn't solve the problem (parents don't know about the witch). Thus, the girl gives into witch's demands. Sadly, I don't remember more of this work. 2) Kid's book. A boy goes to stay with his aged grandparents on a farm. Also there is a female cousin. There is a competition fo a magical civil war sword. Boy does not believe it's magic and for some reason does not believe it is magical & tries to destroy it. Sword saves itself. Grandpa builds a spanking machine tells the kid to stick his head into a contraption to look for some problem (kid does not realize it's a spanking machine). So, while the machine does it's business Grandpa interrogates his grandson. 3) Short story in school textbook that teacher had us read. Kid goes to summer camp. Doesn't want to. While there, at end of every summer stay there is a competition for craziest contraption to earn money. Kid comes up with idea for a ride but to build it; money is required. Somehow kid gets home, "borrows" money from Dad, overhears a scheme that would hurt Dad's business, goes back to camp where he shows up bully of a camp director by having said such Director ride said machine. Kid goes home, scheme to hurt Dad's business happening so son reveals knowledge. Kid sent to his room to get in PJs while Dad deals with bad guy. When Dad gets done he and son have a lengthy discussion (that is quite detailed) with belt while son laying across bed. Kid says he always tells himself he won't act like a crying little kid while happening but, as always, he becomes that kid. Afterward, when son dressed and father and kid are on hike Dad tells son how proud of him he is.

Bonus: In middle school stumbled over book where son & Dad are in basement where kid has building blocks & Dad has workshop. Kid builds a fort. Falls asleep inside. Wakes up in house where his Dad & Aunt are kids. Trouble ensues. Grandfather says all three are going to get the belt but is kid wants out to tell him his parents name & leave. Kid can't do that as he thinks only way home is by sticking around. So Aunt gets belt first (hard) and then eagerly listens at door (despite mother being in room) as Dad and then kid gets spanked. Later, kid winds up home talks to Dad about his childhood while still feeling his sore rear.

If anyone knows these four titles, please share. I've been dying to finish the civil war sword book since I was in single digits as book sized by teacher and thrown on floor when I was at the spanking machine part. Probably, large part of reason I like CP machine works.
