So sorry to hear of flopsy's poor health! Like so many others who love this site and the work she does so generously for it, she has my well wishes for a fast and full recovery.

There are times it's no better on this side of the pond either, Februs. We all want to hear she's doing well and will be home soon. God love her. I've sent my prayers her way, too.

Best wishes, flopsy, get well.

Hope you're in a position to read all these messages soon. No overworking when you're back up.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that she's back in the hospital. I don't care what country people are in, the bureaucrats in the hospitals are the same globally, they are frustrating and infuriating. My best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Please send Flopsy my best wishes. I really hope things go well for both of you.

I've had good and bad experiences with the NHS. Generally the medical care is better than the information and customer relations side, but what you've listed is appalling. I wouldn't take it. If you can get to the hospital and insist on seeing the consultant, and can wait, that could work. Speaking to whoever picks up the general number and explaining you're seriously dissatisfied and would like to speak to someone senior could work. I know people hesitate to make waves for fear of retribution, but that's more of a real issue where people are very old and frail, or have learning difficulties, and are unlikely to be able to make their views clear once they're out (or unlikely to get out at all).

In all likelihood the consultant believes you have been updated and someone has failed to do their job in that respect.

There are bodies set up to raise such issues and support patients, but they're in flux because of the current reorganisation. Nonetheless the Primary Care Trust or the County Council should be able to point you in the right direction.

Best wishes for a quick recovery for a terrific person . . . from thousands of miles away. People all over planet earth are thinking of her and wishing her well; quite extraordinary when you think of it and well deserved.

Sebastian:
Now, as far as the NHS is concerned; as bad as it is, at least you have a health service. .

Many people don't stop to think that the USA actually has a national health system. While hardly perfect, its customer satisfaction stats are surprisingly good. In fact they're comparable to those of private companies. The catch? It (Medicare) only applies to those of us over 65, and you pay taxes your entire working life to pay for your time in it.

Sebastian:
A great many people in the USA have no insurance and can't get help with their health.

Unfortunately true. The cost in lost productivity and unnecessary preventible illness is astronomical. It may not always be in the form of taxes, but all American residents ultimately share that cost.

Waiting to hear good news about Flopsy!
