Once upon a time, a girlfriend and I had teased each other about things like spanking, mostly from articles in magazines and newspapers, not taking it seriously at all. After a very long period of time we both thought it might be interesting to try a few mild hand spankings. At first it was her on the receiving end and I was OK with that. It was very occasional and we didn't talk much about it. After quite a while, she suggested that I should "submit" to her at some point, without being specific. She wanted me to agree without me knowing what she had in mind. I told her I would think about it. Eventually I agreed to be the spankee on a trial basis and submit to her. It was both silly and clumsy at first. After months of false starts and occasionally laughter, I agreed to a series of F/M spanking lessons with a variety of implements and positions. It eventually reached the point where it was a total turn-on for both of us and we looked forward to 3 to 4 hours or more of spankings, both M/F and F/M.

...and you let that woman go?!

It was an issue of careers, with limited employment locations where I would be willing to live. Same with the lady. We both agreed it was a good education and we are both now very comfortable discussing our interests and such.

It's good to hear that you managed to stay in touch, even though a lot of water probably have run under the bridges since you were together. You gained a life-long friend with similar interests, you lucky you.

When I was 18 someone showed me Janus magazine and told me where there was a private shop. I remember bouncing in there and several sheepish looking men sidled out the back door when I loudly said, 'I want to read stories about spanking.'

Was that the Janus shop in Old Compton St, Soho? I often used to go in there, buying Janus and Februs magazines as well as my first-ever leather paddle. I know what you mean about the male customers; I once took my then girlfriend in there with me and the temperature palpably dropped several degrees as the otherwise all-male clientele registered the shock of her presence. She was most amused.

No, it was a shop in Oxford. At the time I hadn't even known there were such things as porn shops. I thought people were talking about pawn shops.

Oh yeah! In case someone caught me inside a porn shop I could weasel my way out of the embarassing situation by saying "But I thought that this was a pawn shop! And I was just looking for some second-hand copies of Janus!"

I haven't been into Soho since 2001, not that I ever went there that much anyway, apart from the late 70s when I had to go into London a lot on business. You could just park your car for free all day on the Embankment streets back then.

The Janus shop was indeed very special in the late 70s.

I remember going to the Janus shop on Old Compton and yes, it was quite a shock for the patrons to see a young woman checking out the magazines. I remember the smile a very pleasant-looking man slipped me as I was purchasing a wonderfully flexible thin cane. It was a bit strange, yes, but I never felt threatened, which is more than one could say for lots of other places.

Leslie, your avatar is a man but your comment suggests you're a woman?

I was curious about that too, is it a mistake or deliberate?
