Best spankings in mainstream movies or TV shows- "Cowcatcher's Daughter"

Eiffel did a post a while back on this topic in which he entertained us with the movies of celebrated Czech film director Jiri Menzel. Let me take up the baton (or slapstick) with my offering. I've written about it plenty before in articles but it may attract a wider readership on the Forum. There is a link between mine- "Cowcatcher's Daughter"- and Eiffel's "Postriziny" which was made very much as a nod of appreciation to old slapstick cinema.

"Cowcatcher's Daughter", an early Mack Sennett talkie from 1931, has perhaps the longest spanking in mainstream cinema and certainly the longest as a percentage of its total length which is only 20 minutes in total. The spanking occupies nearly three minutes of that! With the delicious build-up you could say that the entire first reel (out of two) is concerned with the eponymous heroine getting her bottom spanked. And being one of the first talkies we get the benefit of hearing as well as seeing the spanking which I think is important.

The frisson commences in the very first scene when exasperated father realises that charming but troublesome daughter who is supposed to be at finishing school back east has scarpered and taken up residence with a travelling circus as a trick rider. He makes it abundantly clear what he proposes to do with the young lady and it doesn't sound as if she will be putting her bottom back on a horse for a while once he's finished with her.

His foreman brings her home on the back of his horse facing the tail in disgrace but she's full of minxy good humour as she teases him all the way back. She clearly reckons she can sweet talk her way out of trouble with her old Pop. But he's hopping mad and just can't wait to get her over his knee and begin the spanking she needs.

So back at the ranch she has to get off her high horse with her tail (and the horse's) between her legs. She starts her well rehearsed simpering act but when he produces the old strap he has clearly used before on her bottom the smile is wiped off her face.

He chases her into the house wielding the strap as she clutches her bottom. Fortunately the camera follows. She's still dressed in all her circus finery- a huge belt and fine cowgirl boots that would themselves set many a fetishist a-quiver and a fringed buckskin skirt that assumes close order over her shapely cowgirl's bottom as she's goes over her father's knee.

Her bottom is now the highest point of her anatomy and presents a wonderful target for her angry father and a pleasing spectacle for the viewer too. She gets her bottom spanked amid much further scolding, protestations, and interruptions (at one point the young man she has just set her heart on is seen watching through the window). A wonderful scene all told combining slapstick humour with a real spanko frisson.

Cowcatcher's Daughter is a delight, isn't it? - all done with great good humour. I particularly like the detail of the girl's young man watching her getting spanked - and with an approving grin, too. You get the distinct impression that he'll be following her dad's example whenever she needs it...

My personal favourite is a well known one, from Gidget, where her sister and brother-in-law bent her over the couch and proceeded to wallop her backside, when she asked what this was about her sister replied in a sweet voice 'Togetherness, darling.' She delivered the moral at the end of the show from her bedroom sitting on a pillow.

Well, the young lady certainly didn't seem very discomfitted by her strapping, she was playing that prank with the cooking fire and chattering away blithely while being spanked over her father's lap. (She did manage to prematurely end her punishment, albeit at the risk of setting the house aflame--that was the only spanking I can recall offhand wherein the spanker's behind ended up being hotter than the spankee's.)

The father threatening the donkey with having to do plowing--rather a strange threat IMHO since presumably that was why he owned the animal--I found that rather amusing, especially since the donkey seemed to understand him and backed away.

So what kind of a rancher wears a suit during the work day anyway? I don't remember Ben Cartwright dressing that way while running the Ponderosa... --C.K.

Somehow, I don't think realism was uppermost in the film-makers' minds....

Ben Cartwheel was prob'ly just a sprout when this flick was made. I like the line where CC's daughter says, "Where am I gonna get it, Pa?" Paw replies, "Where it'll do the most good!"

On the other hand, Oliver Wendell Douglas always wore a three-piece suit when he was out in the field on Green Acres.

There was a great one at the end of the John Wayne comedy (yes, it was a comedy) Donovan's Reef, where he pulled the love interest over his lap and spanked her shapely rear with his hand. I know they usually fake these or the male lead's aren't really hitting that hard, but the dust that the Duke's palm making fly off the seat of her dress was real, I still wonder if she was wearing padding, otherwise she would have had one sore bum.
