Pretty much all paper spanking books have gone now, but I would always prefer to read from paper rather than a screen if I had a choice. Will paper spanking books ever return in the way records have?

I love old paper books and have always bought second-hand books rather than new one. I gave away all my old spanking novels when we moved countries a number of years ago, but now wish I had kept a couple. You can still get classics like Dolly Morton, Domino Tattoo and Frank & I on Abesbooks.

As to spanking books being out of print, not altogether, but less available. I'm told Fifty Shades of Grey is still on the book racks!

Mind you, I never mentioned "what is your preferred length of 'spanking' stories?" You all act like this is a spanking story website or something! heh heh ...Wait, it IS?!? Jeepers! I thought it was just a Brand New website! Oh, how shocking! Will my Weekly Wednesday pinochle party members ever forgive my lapse of judgement???

It's not a matter of frequency of spankings in a story that impresses me, but yes as I first inferred, quality of story is crucial to being able to read through any length story (spankings involved or not).

I prefer a well written story. Length not an issue. Descriptive, without sound displays. I.e. Smack ! Crack! Slap! Describe the spanking. Just me thinking out loud. Regards.

Well said. I guess I should have phrased my posing question better, or allowed for alternative phraseology, as there seems a large contingent of readers who prefer much shorter stories at all risk. Risk being the truncation of a story; avoiding a more verbose writing of the events as they occur. In other words, avoiding a "well written" story.

That's wrong, as a short story can be "well written" too. Maybe I'm not well spoken enough to describe the differences.

Maybe I could have phrased the question better as "who is afraid of more lengthy stories?"

I truly think some writers are sometimes looking at their watch as they type the story, thinking, "I have much better things to do!" If not that, they DO look at word count and seek to write the briefest story they can.

Well, it's not as much "afraid of" as "having time for". Reading and writing spanking stories is a guilty pleasure I try to make time for in an otherwise busy schedule, and reading/writing a 9000 word story takes three times as long as reading/writing a 3000 word story. This means that I rarely start reading a 9000 word story unless it is by an author I really trust, and that my personal best in writing a story is 7700 words (and that felt really long!)

Again, here I am exhibiting poor choice of words (this is why I take a long time writing my stories. I really used to be better at it years ago (not really, but it sounds better when I say that)). However, to a lesser extent, a fundamental concept persists. Instead of simply writing until satisfied with the story, it seems you are aware of word count, and worry(?) over putting too many words in it. In that regard, it sounds less "pleasurable" and more like a chore. A chore that should be finished in the most expedient fashion possible.

It's kind of like sex. Are you the type that thinks "let's get it up, get it on, and get it over with" or "let's make it last until our toes curl"? As I've gotten older, I found I had to reassess how I do things. Passion shouldn't be based on something as mechanical as a stopwatch. That said, if you love pussy (if that is your bent), then shouldn't you want to be in it for as long as you can, if not as often, and not be a "minute man"?

I'm not making accusations. I really only wanted this thread to be from a reader's perspective. As a writer, I agonize that I put too many words into my stories. Polar to that, I equally worry that I don't express a concept well enough. This is why I was looking for a reader's point of view.

In sex or writing, are we doing it for our pleasure or the other person's?

One reason why getting comments for stories I've written are sweet (to me at least), although I prefer hearing negatives more than positives. Honestly, my thoughts on the matter go much, much deeper and I could go on for pages about the matter with variant possibilities. However, speaking of which, I feel everyone's eyes are glazing over from my rant, so I'll end it there.

A story is as long as it needs to be - no more - no less.
I have read very good stories that are less than one page and I've read wonderful stories more than fifty pages. As story is as long as it needs to be - that's all!

I agree with mianders. If a story keeps my interest, I don't mind if it's long, and I also prefer to read printed pages. Hopefully they won't die out.
