If it were a "real" library

If the LSF was a physical location (in an ideal world where we could all drop by easily to borrow a few books), what would you want it to be like? How do you imagine it?

I'm imagining lots of armless chairs, and a soundproofed room to deal with those who break the rules! Lots of cosy corners to nestle up and read in, lots of empty corners just begging for a brat in them. Probably a very old fashioned, traditional library feel to it - lots of dark polished wood, a heavy dusty smell in the air.

Obviously this is just a silly flight of fancy, but thinking about it made me smile. How do y'all imagine it?

I can just imagine what the penalties would be for returning books late, or making too much noise in the library, a sound proof room might be required, or maybe it would be better if the proceedings were heard.

I'll bet our Librarian would love it.

The Children and Young Adults section would be quite small indeed, and they wouldn't be allowed to use their tickets to get out any of the good stuff.

I imagine the library as a place for young adults to be brought by parents or teachers to be disciplined appropriately, either in a special room, for which the dark wood and leather chairs would be appropriate, or at the discretion of the parent or teacher, there might be a place on the open front area of the main floor for spankings or canings would be administered before any library user or staff member who happened to be there. The library might want to have a senior staff member designated as supervisor to oversee and manage this as[ect of the library's activities so that everything remained orderly and that discipline did not become excessive. That said, how severe a spanking or caning would be would generally be left to the parent or teacher unless the supervisor felt the punishment was becoming too extreme.

I'd agree with the soundproof room, or perhaps a supply of ball-gags - something to mute the sounds of spankings to a pleasant background noise, rather than an interruption to one's reading. I also imagine a lending library of spanking implements to try out, and a bar stocked with a fine selection of malt whiskies...!

And what would be the penalty for spilling whisky on any of the books?

That would depend on the value of the whisky - and the book!

I think a sound proof area - including a reading room. Those who don't mind hearing their fellow patrons "pay" their late fees or be punished for other infractions could use that room while those who truly do prefer silence would not be disturbed.
Late Fees: 10 swats on the bare with a ping pong paddle or wooden spoon per day. For every 5 days add in 10 additional swats with the hairbrush.
Per book of course.
Talking in the library - first offense: 25 with the slipper, second offense: 6 of the best, don't ask about the third offense....
