Spanking Mentioned in Saturday Evening Post.

Remember reading in the old Saturday Evening Post a 1966 article called "Stealing for Thrills" or something like that. It was about the problem of teenage girls shoplifting, not because they could not afford to buy something, but as a sort of game, for kicks, just to show they could get away with it. Not caring that it was wrong or illegal.
In a later issue I saw there was a letter from a mother who said she had teenage daughters and that the youngest had been caught stealing a tube of lipstick from a department store.
She said rather than call the police the manager called her. She went on to say that like many of the girls in the article, her daughter thought it was no big deal. But " a lecture from me however and a darn good licking to leave an impression soon convinced her of the seriousness of the matter" Sure that it did, and i daresay that Mom likely used her hairbrush-and on bare skin or at least panties! Back then could easily imagine a store manager calling parents in the case of a juvenile shoplifter and figuring they'd handle the matter effectively.

At about this time, as best I can recall it was 1965, there was an article in the Fort Lauderdale News about a Broward County judge who gave mothers of girls arrested for shoplifting the option giving their daughter a panty covered bottom spanking of 100 smacks in front of a female court officer or having the girl spend thirty days in the County Juvenile Facility. Every mom given this option chose administering the spanking.

Being sent to Juvvie would have marked them as Bad Girls for life. It would have shamed their families. They would have had to drop out of school and give up any hopes of landing a good husband.

They would have taken any option to avoid that life sentence.

I think most of the girls would have chosen the option willingly. Yes, it's embarrassing and I daresay quite painful, but better than losing a month out of your life in a juvenile facility.

From what I understand back in those days it was not unknown that juvenile lawbreakers, both boys and girls, would be ordered to receive corporal punishment when convicted. There were even national Sunday newspaper supplement stories about a judge in Indiana or somewhere in the Midwest who was called "the spanking judge" because of his frequent use of the paddling penalty. From what I have read though he only used it with teenage boys, no mention of girls. Of course, boys were perhaps more likely to end up in juvenile court in that era. The shoplifting for thrills issue would be an exception.

I love these old anecdotes of long ago, perhaps better times, who knows! A hundred spanks on a girl's panties was hardly brutal or unjust, but so goes our modern age thinking!

I knew of a 17yo girl who ran away to Florida on the orange freight trains and got caught in Florida , this was probably back in 1970. They put her in juvie , where, though her father was on his way to get her, they spanked her with a leather strap and told her that no help was coming and this first spanking was just a "hello" with much more to come. Imagine her relief when dad showed up the next morning! Knowing her dad, she got the belt somewhere along the way after that, but I bet it was welcomed compared to the humiliation she suffered in juvie!

I can't help thinking right minded judges might use such a choice when dealing with these moronic women hooked on heroin with babies at home. A hundred with the leather strap on the bare may be more appropriate but some leftist will cry abuse. No, it's better we spend hundreds of thousands housing them in prison! What was I thinking?

What happened to that girl in 1970 was abhorrent! Not only did they physically abuse her, they also indulged in a little mental abuse at the same time.

I remember reading an article about a judge trying a teenager. I'm not sure when, probably the 60s or 70s. During the trial, his mother was saying something on his behalf and he told her to shut up. the judge ordered the bailiff to give the boy 15 licks with a paddle for disrespecting his mother in court.

Speaking of the Saturday Evening Post, I recall that at one time it featured short stories that often depicted spanking of naughty females (and not just children)
