Here the Catholic school girls are allowed to wear pants in the winter, at least.

Always entertaining to read comments from our friends 'Over the water' discussing English School practises, I suggest you go onto Ebay, that's ebay.co.uk not ebay.com and search gymslip because I can't put a direct link here.

Aha! You know what infuriates me further: what sort of colossal morons decided to import these uniforms to private schools in Canada with no regard for the Canadian WEATHER?? I see little 7-year-old girls running around in January in that get-up with bare legs in freaking -35 degrees , -45 with windchill. I want to go the school office and bitchslap the principal with the plaque of their school motto, "We Care About Our Students".

Ummm...isn't it below zero ALL THE TIME in Canada? You folks are ALWAYS sending us your polar vortexes and such. I think [that idiot] Donald Trump has it wrong and we should build a wall up to the stratosphere on our northern border just so you folks can keep that frigid weather on your side of the border!

That being said, I do kind of feel sorry for you Canadians. Here in the US in winter time we can say, "My God but it's cold here! Lets head south to Florida and get warm," whereas what can you do, say, "It's colder than the tail end of a beaver, eh? What say you we head up to Yellowknife to warm up a bit."

Well, on the positive side they don't get shot if they accidentally set foot on the neighbour's lawn, so I guess there are advantages and disadvantages in every society. The cooler the climate the calmer society tends to be

Btw, I had the same, or rather opposite, experience as those poor kids walking bare legged in Canada in minus a gazillion degrees. When I was working in South America my kids had to wear school uniforms that worked like boiler suits in the summer. Everybody around us were darkish and my kids were practically white as a bed sheet in comparison, so they couldn't really cope with the heat like their classmates did. My daughter came down with a sunstroke one day and after that, as only kids in school, my kids were not only allowed, but compelled by safety regulations at school, to wear a cap to their school uniform to protect their heads. So they picked a really cool one (a Russian military cap), which made them legendary at school.

And get eaten by a bear instead? Well, at least I wouldn't be cold anymore...
One of the first things I learned when we first moved to Canada: ALL wild animals are dangerous, no matter their size. I didn't get this, because there just are no wild animals left in cities 'over the pond'. I met an adorable little chipmunk our first week here, and I was like "aawww, so cute!", and then he made me his bitch in under five seconds. Do NOT mess with chipmunks, they are aggressive assholes and they are not scared of you. The squirrels are even worse. And then there are the geese; I once had cancel my class because angry geese were guarding both doors to my building and wouldn't let me in. And everyone took it completely in stride. "Welp, guess nobody's goin' in there today, eh? What are you gonna do, eh?"

I once went to a restaurant in Lubbuck, TX where a peacock of all things was blocking the entrance and wouldn't let anyone in. I didn't know a damn peacock could be that aggressive. This thing had fanned out it's tail feathers and was squawking and chasing anyone approaching the front door. Finally, it folded up it's tail feathers and moved away from the door.

I first saw gymslips in a British Spanking Video back in the early 80's The schoolgirls were exercising indoors at and estate. Their short white dresses reminded me of Roman Tunics or short nighties. The girls were motivated with the help of a big floppy slipper.

Okay.

I don't think the Canadians need or want sympathy.

Early February, 2015, 9:45 AM. I am rangering a golf course in Zepyrhills, FL. 37 degrees, blue skies plus sunny with Wind at 20 mph. I am in full dress with winter coat, gloves, hood, long pants, knee socks, etc, etc. Yes, and here comes this dude to get a golf cart dressed in nothing more than shorts and a tee-shirt. He is all smiles and I as I see how he is dressed I am amazed and Inquisitive so ask him what he is doing here. Yes, obviously intended and meaningfully a reference to his attire, or lack thereof, as I look him up and down.

Seemingly, he totally misses my thrust.

"Hey, it was either going shopping with the wife or golf. A no brainer, eh? He laughed and left."

I just shook my head and sighed.

Later, after a little investigation, I found that he was wintering down here as an escape from Labrador.

Amazing folk, these from the upper latitudes. Good people too. Gotta love them.

Point being, they join us in Florida just as other northern US denizens financially able to winter here. They simply amaze me with their climatic attitude/adjustment and this just speaks volumes about the resilience of the human system and conditioning.

Oh, and where in the hell is Yellowknife? Sounds like a nice place to maybe summer in July when the heat hits the fan.

True story:
Before the 60s, schoolgirls were expected to dresses or skirts at all time - regardless of the weather.
