Off topic rant. This week someone I cared for past away. She was my landlady for just under 10 years and provided a home when I didn't have one. Her family, who she decided to have move in with her when her mind was going, took advantage of her & used her as their personal ATM machine. Plus, it's highly suspected they get their income from selling drugs. Tried to keep an eye on her until they forbid contact. They were isolating her from everyone & everything. Well, she past away earlier this week. I looked for her obit all week. It was finally in the paper today, Friday 24th, and will be in paper through the 26th but the paper wasn't released until 3 PM and the viewing, wake & funeral all started today at 10 AM. In other words, they deliberately released the obit so her friends couldn't attend to say their goodbyes. Err. Very few things truly tick me off & this does.

Some people are horrible. Alas, that's life.

What a horrible situation -- I'm so sorry. If you know where she is buried, I suggest you go and say your own private farewell at her graveside.

Sad but regrettably not rare.

Only thing i can say is, it is what you did when a person is alive that makes a difference, once a person dies what we do eg attend funeral etc is respectful and to meet our own needs, i am of course not dismissing your feelings or needs.

Sorry for your loss, and it really does suck the way some families exploit their elderly and sick relatives.

I agree, it's totally sickening. More common than we think, too. Sorry for your loss.

Sad situation to happen to anyone. Some families are just not the caring type, especially ones in the drug trade or the users of drugs. Somethings like drugs overrule natural affection and the world can be cruel.

Just wanted to comment on the above quote. Only a few things tick you off ... boy I have lots to learn I guess.

A very upsetting tale. RosieRad makes a good suggestion. Even better, if you know any of their friends invite them to join you. And if you can get a crowd together, be sure to invite the family in the hope they may belatedly develop a sense of shame.
