Kids around the world are going to break with tradition and ask their parents for a switch.

A Nintendo Switch - which Nintendo's name for its new portable game device.

No, I don't know why they called it that, but there has to be a story there. Something about a teen saying "Can I have switch" being misinterpreted (perhaps intentionally) and leading to a switching....

Hah funny. I'd be interested in reading that. Your mind is truly that of a spanko. You make us all proud.

Whenever I see "Switch User" on a computer, I think "Well, if you insist..."

I have said it before, but perhaps it's worth repeating: As the Norwegian term for spanking is the same as the term for rice, lots of Norwegian kids are asking for more spanking every day.

In Swedish it's the same word as ironing (as in clothes), which makes no sense, who came up with that? Unless young people use a different word now, in which case I'm sure someone on here will correct me...

"Stryk", we have the same term in Norwegian, but it is rather old-fashioned and not used much. Another Swedish term, "smisk", means "flattery" in (informal) Norwegian!

Uhm, you might have been away just a little bit too long Burgundy. Being an inbred Swede for generations I would say that 'stryk' would these days only be used in the form that you get severely beaten up, usually with fists in the face, while 'stryka' would be the verb meaning ironing clothes... But if we open a section for non-English stories I am quite willing to give it a try. Swedish have about one seventh of the vocabulary that you have in Spanish for example, so most words meaning different things in different contexts, it gives unimagined possibilities for misunderstandings on a daily basis. Unfortunately not ending very often in actual spankings though...

Yes, I have been away for a very long while, but I visit regularly - however, very few Swedes talk about spankings, so I wouldn't have had a chance to hear the updated slang for that
OK, smart-ass, what word IS used these days then?

Here in Canada, nowadays it's frowned upon, so not many parents talk about it in public anymore, though you still do hear some public threats once in a while ("that's it, my kid's getting it as soon as I get the little brat home"). But it wasn't long ago that it was completely socially acceptable still, so there are a lot of words and expressions to describe spankings...

Around here there used to be adverts on the back of buses where people proudly claimed " I switch when I can" the word 'switch' was on much larger letters and in a different colour, so naturally it caught the eye, and not just of spankos
Sadly it was just the name the bus company gave to its fare pre-payment card.
