"Over a barrel"

I'm drawn more toward to F/f and M/f, though I can read nearly any combination if it is well written and somewhat plausible. I find it difficult to write plausible adult on adult, unless there is sex involved, and it is foreplay.

I remember back in the 1960s speaking to a South African prison officer and he told us prisoners were held over a barrel to be whipped or caned on the buttocks. I'm sure the practice would have originated many years before this though.

Presumably, an underage female would wish to be spanked for the same basic reasons that an adult one would, the most obvious motivation being for erotic/playful purposes.

Of course, a girl wouldn't have to "want" a spanking to receive one, if she were subject to the corporally punitive authority of someone older than herself. Outside of the female having spanko-submissive desires and therefore consenting to her 'discipline,' it strikes me that it's easier for a writer to create a fairly realistic scenario within which an underage girl gets her bottom blistered, as opposed to a situation in which an adult woman does.

Not that it's impossible in either case, however it does seem less challenging with a thirteen-year-old feminine spankee rather than a thirty-year-old one...

I believe I read some years ago about a time when Italy was forming as a nation. It stated that there were barrels, cut in half lengthwise fastened in the city squares. Women and men of quality that opposed unification were taken there, tied over the barrels, their bottoms undraped to everyone's view and whipped in public! They were then left there for some time as a message to any who opposed unification. I believe this would have been in the late 1800's and may have been the derivation of the term, "you have me over a barrel"!

I may have read this in a fictionalized novel somewhere and accepted it at face value as well! We all believe what we want to believe, after-all!

As for "raging spankaholic" I wonder if this condition is contagious or have I just imagined I have the same condition? I do not think there is a cure as of yet, but, I must spend the remainder of my life trying to find one! Research will be dangerous and exhaustive, but it MUST be done!

They primary navy term as I understand it was not "Over the Barrel" in the case you are describing with the cannon barrel. The cannon in question was a small 2" gun on the back of the ship which you could go over, and the typical term for it was "Kissing the Captains Daughter" which was a small cannon he had control over which was outside of the main battery below decks that gunners mates were in charge of firing.

I've always heard/read of it being called "Kissing the gunner's daughter"...

I read somewhere about convicts in Southern prison work gangs being punished by "going over the barrel" for whippings on their bare bottoms with leather straps. Knowing the reputation of oldtime Southern prisons can well believe that was true.
In fact, accounts from some of the famous Scottsboro Boys who were railroaded to prison in 1930s Alabama tell of how they got such severe whippings their buttocks were permanently scarred. And we Americans get indignant about Singapore canings with such in our past!
Particularly when we know so many Southern men went to prison for no otber reason than their skin pigmentation!

We need stories about this; pronto!

There's an excellently written, though very sad, book titled Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II by Douglas Blackmon that chronicles the many horrors perpetrated against African Americans by the state of Alabama, and yes... it has several examples of strappings and whippings as elements of this mistreatment detailed therein.
