Dogville (2003) is an odd, odd movie. No, it's more than odd, it's weird. Some call it avant-garde, others call it a philosophical movie, but trust me - it's weird.

And it has rape scenes. Notice the S at the end of the word 'scenes'. And the ending isn't a happy one. Nope, not happy at all. To the point where I haven't actually watched all of it because at spots it's just too weird to watch.

So at one point Nicole Kidman's character is basically reduced to being a near slave - if she wants to stay hidden in the community she has to almost everything she's told to do. And it's not just the adults who can order her around, as the sole spanking scene from the movie shows. That scene is available at:

and is possibly the only real good point of the movie. It shows what some boys would do if they could suddenly control an adult woman, one as pretty as Nicole Kidman.

Well, "Dogville" is clearly an offbeat film, notably with its stage-play-style setting, it demonstrates how 'power corrupts' and thus made the townspeople possessing it mean-spirited and even cruel--while they obviously didn't deserve their final fate, I did take some satisfaction in it because of how they'd ended up treating Nicole Kidman's character.

If I were that little boy, I'd certainly have included "take my pants down and use your hairbrush" in my directions to her, of course.

Ms. Kidman's character did receive a quick flick of a light switch across her derriere from one of the townswomen, I seem to recall...

"Dogville", like many of von Trier's movies, is indeed weird. Von Trier is very much avant-garde, to say the least, but is also well thought-of by many other directors and is undeniably talented. Like David Lynch though, I find it very difficult to get through his films in one sitting as they often are quite bizarre and seem to make no sense to me.

The scene in Dogville with Nicole Kidman and the boy is indeed provocative. Imagine being a young boy or girl and being able to control or compel an adult woman (or man, if you prefer) to satisfy your "spank curiosity" and give you a spanking, presumably against their will or better judgement. I wonder how many of us, given that opportunity, would take advantage of it? I can truthfully say that I would have, no doubt.

I sense a fantasy spanking story here...

For reasons of my own, I do like Von Trier movies and Dogville certainly is the most palatable of them. The main actress is very attractive and the risque scenes are very well made.

Have you seen "Dancer in the Dark" or "Breaking the Waves"?

I particularly liked " if you don't spank me I'll tell my mother that you hit me" , which has a delightful illogicality whilst also making the distinction between hitting and spanking which is so often not understood.

I think his mother is a complete non-spanker, which is why he is using that threat and curious enough to ask for a spanking.

As for the scene itself, I assume that there's padding under his coveralls. Otherwise he would have felt a few of those, and I strongly doubt even an experimental film maker would include a real spanking in a modern movie.

I'm a big Von Trier fan. Filmed entirely on a soundstage with no set other than chalk outlines on the floor to indicate the various buildings in the town, Dogville was the first of an intended trilogy about the history of America — a country Von Trier has never been to due to his fear of flying. The trilogy was abandoned after the second installment, Mandalay.

Corporal punishment enthusiasts may be more interested in his more recent film, Nymphomania, in which Charlotte Gainsbourg receives a lengthy and ritualistic strapping on her bare bottom. Gainsbourg's character is one of several women who periodically occupy a mysterious waiting room until each takes a turn getting whipped by a professional dom. Very intense sequence showing a very real whipping, though presumably delivered to a body double. She's also shown how to make her own flogger. Warning: This was released in two parts and runs something like 4 hours, including some scenes you may wish you could un-see. Not for all tastes, but still a profoundly intelligent examination of human sexuality.

I discovered the spanking scene in 'Dogville' purely by accident and was absolutely delighted by it.

There are a few mainstream films where youngsters try to incite adults into spanking them but very few that actually show it carried out.

I often wonder where the writers of such scenes are coming from as they are very incisive with regards to the mindset of 'spankos' like myself.

However, I remember well as a youngster my brothers' girlfriends trying to drag me over their knee for a fun spanking and my desperate struggles to prevent them from doing so.

I have occasionally tried to rationalise my interests and link them to my past but this kind of reaction simply doesn't reconcile at all.

Perhaps the boy did protesteth too much!

Yes, I saw both, somewhere near 2000 or thereabout. Both were exhibited in "art" circuit of few theaters with legends in Portuguese. I don't remember any spanking scenes in them.
