My only IRL spanking experience, as a top, was with the only real girlfriend I've ever had. That was way back when I was 22-23 years old. She and I worked together, and ... she asked me out. I accepted.

She was 17 years old.

She was a virgin.

But, hey, she asked me out, and I agreed, and we were together for a year and a half.

I eventually took her virginity, and also introduced her to spanking. And ... she was a wonderful bottom. Holy crap, her pain tolerance was amazing.

20 years later, long after we had split, I realized that she wasn't a spanko. She was a young girl who was in love with me, submitting to what she thought she had to, and I was taking advantage. And I am ashamed. My only excuse is that I was a young dumbass who didn't know what he was doing. I was all, "Oh wow! She let's me spank her!"

And that is largely why I have been both sexually celibate, and inactive with spanking. I'm simply not going to enter a relationship that does not include consensual spanking.

And that's what I'm planning to tell my mom. She has asked me more than once why I'm not married and providing her with grandchildren. Well, mom, spanking is important to me, and I am not going to marry a woman who doesn't want to be spanked. Really, this is not a bomb you just drop on the pretty girl you just met. "Oh hey, lets have sex, and by the way, I'd like to spank the daylights out of you."

I wanted to clarify my posting the other day. The girl in question had been spanked including teen years, by her parents so I took a chance. She had cute glutes in her tight black slacks she had worn on our date.

I did not analyze, theorize or speculate, I just spanked her some. However, I want to make it clear while she was over my lap, she was not held and I did not try to stop her from removing her from the spanking. So, while I would not call it non consensual, it is behavior I would not repeat.

I actually feel that spanking became more mainstream in the last few years. It has really been in the news in the last 6 years or so, with movies like "Secretary", "50 Shades of Grey" (book too), this NYT article:

I think more of a general public now appreciates that some people are turned on by spanking. I think most non spankos would be more concerned with more disciplinary aspects of spanking and of anything harsh.

So personally I feel that I am 50% from the closet. And actually, the 50% was pretty easy. When my now wife asked me once what turns me on in bed, I really had no problem telling her that I like to spank her plump butt. She did not really comment but does not mind moderate hand spanks in bed. But I really don't think she would be that to open to harder spanking with an implement that I also crave to give her.

Well, for the record I did not say "plump" . This conversation was a number of years ago and she was not my wife then, we were dating. The whole conversation lasted for probably a minute and spanking was one of the things that I said I like. I don't remember at this point the exact words I used.

Trust me; if you had referred to her butt as "plump" before you were married, you'd likely be single today. Either way, you'd remember it because she'd give you reason to. Women are funny that way...

Now that the wife and I are in our 6th decade I still hear the talk that starts out, "Remember when we were first dating....". It is usually not the start of a good conversation. My wife is far from being and elephant, but, she sure has a good memory.
