I was checking out lists of surnames on the web and I came across a forum post from someone who said:

"I got married 2 weeks ago and I can't decide on a surname. My surname is Pegg and my husband's surname is Legg.

We have 4 children between us (two Pegg's and two Legg's) and because we don't want to change their names, we were thinking about hyphenating ours to Pegg-Legg. "

I don't believe a word of it but it did make me smile

That reminds me of the apocryphal story that Whoopi Goldberg had a passionate affair with the British horror star Peter Cushing. But she wouldn't marry him because she refused to become Whoopi Cushing....

A friend of mine at university had a girlfriend whose surname was Talls. Her parents, whether out of malice or stupidity, had named her Jennifer....

In fact, Whoopi (real name Caryn Johnson), earlier in her career actually used the name "Whoopi Cushion" for a while...

I always remember an Asian guy I worked with, his surname was Thai, and he married a girl whose first name was Thai, so she became Thai Thai.

I was friends with a girl at work who had the same initials as me and our first names were also similar. A mate used to continually joke that we should marry so that we'd have the same name.

I knew a couple whose surname was Bonney. They had a son and I subsequently met a young woman in my choir whose first name was Bonnie. And yes, she did marry my friends' son. She thought it vaguely amusing.
