Regina:
What if the story does not appeal to you or you find to extreme or unbelievable. I feel it is best to let it alone.

Well, my belief is that many authors appreciate constructive criticism--I certainly do, especially if it presents me with perceptions of characterizations and/or plot elements that differ from my own.

Outside of Challenge entries, posted stories are rather quickly described in terms of plotline (via a short synopsis), gender pairings involved in its spanking(s), general ages (adult, teenager or child) of the characters involved in the spanking action, implement(s) employed and basic type/setting.

So if a reader desires to avoid F/F pairings, or child-spanking, or fanfiction (these are simply random examples), he/she should be able to do so. If there are already comments posted to the story, reading those could also help him/her figure out if he/she would enjoy reading it. Of course, the "Latest Additions" may lack all of these descriptors, because they haven't yet been validated, so a reader risks 'opening' a story he/she might not care for in that case.

If a reader is going to 'fairly' vote on Challenge entries, in other words on all of them, then he/she will likely come across a few that don't match his/her personal preferences--but I'd venture that he/she should still be able to find something to comment on for each story... --C.K.

"4. They don't feel the need to jump into a conversation, especially if somebody else has already made the point that they were going to say. Much more common with introverts as extroverts rarely feel that way. (Full disclosure, i'm primarily an introvert)."
(bolding mine)

Though I'm an author here, and I love receiving comments on my stories, I'll agree with this point. I've been an active member of another forum (a "general interest" forum not dedicated to any particular topic) since 2003, and since joining that board I've made over 11,000 posts and started 250 unique threads of my own. This, despite being an introvert (in my case, being an introvert is a large part of why I like the Internet - I can participate or not on my own terms, as opposed to being forced into social interaction in real life).

I cannot count the number of times I've read through somebody else's thread, and wanted to comment on the original post, or on one of the replies. So I'll mark the post to which I want to reply, and, as I continue reading through the other replies, I discover that somebody else has already made the same reply that I intended. So I'll simply not add my own comment, as I'm not a fan of "me too" or "+1" posts.

Of course, on that particular board, when somebody repeats something a previous poster already said, it's pretty certain that somebody else will point it out by referring them to the earlier post.

As far as making comments, I comment as I see them. If I feel that they are excellent or if there is a part of the story that I dislike, then I say so. I don't care if I was the only one with a negative comment. It isn't a question that I might not like the complete story but possible description within the story that I find cruel.

I agree with Regina. I made a negative comment once and had second thoughts about it. But my comment did result in some replies that made me see, that this story was not offensive to everybody, and as we all know - LSF is purely fiction!! But I still do not make negative comments.
"If you do not have anything nice to say, you might as well say nothing at all." Allegedly a quotation from Hans Christian Andersen, the Danish author of fairy tales.

I think that far too much emphasis is placed on comments. The bulk of my work was placed on LSF at the beginning when commenting wasn't frequent. I place far more emphasis on favourites.
I read most of the stories posted, except those involving children under sixteen.
I always comment on a story I particularly enjoy or one that is original or very well written.
For the life of me I can't see the point in commenting on a story I thought was just average or even not to my tastes. I would never criticise or comment openly on a story, but may point out a factual error in a private message.
I write silly (actually very silly) spanking stories and imo all spanking stories are silly, even if enjoyable and sometimes very enjoyable, purely for my own enjoyment and if they give pleasure to others then I am very pleased, but although positive comments are welcome I neither expect or crave them.

This is all fascinating, the difference of opinion is vast, as are the tastes for varying degrees of severity, sexual content, abuse and orientation of stories. It will remain a mystery but hopefully we can all agree to disagree, and to each his own. Thank you again for responses either way.

I comment sometimes but not always. It really depends on whether I liked the style and content, I can understand that authors must be frustrated when so many people read/view their article and don't comment. So perhaps I will comment more in future.

I don't expect everyone who reads my stories to comment but I do find it a tad frustrating when I look on my stats to see a reader has opened, say, eight stories in a row and not had the courtesy to comment on even one! To read so many stories would, I presume, provide an hour or two of enjoyment (else, why read so many if you don't like my style of writing?). Surely that warrants an acknowledgment?

I know I am not the only author that has experienced this frustration. I have now taken to sending them a pop up to say, having read so many, it would be nice to know what you thought (good or bad). Of course, they don't reply...but it somehow makes me feel better! Lol.

I don't know whether this is still the same, but it use to say that : good story or nice story was unacceptable as a comment so I felt under pressure to write more & my writing skills aren't up to it.
