Now that it's finally out, has anyone been to see it? Is it any good? I've been reading some of the reviews - some think it's rubbish, some praise it for being different from the book, some think it's sexy, others find it's sex scenes either ridiculous or too tame and vanilla - and the B&Q hardware chain are recommending viewing it to their employees, so that they can deal with the expected rush of customers enquiring about the right sorts of rope and cable ties to tie their partners to the bed with!

Why would I do a thing like that?

The book was rubbish. I hear the movie is even worse, and based on the previews, I believe it. So, no, I won't waste my time or money on it.

Not seen it, however the Fire Service state that the call outs to release people in handcuffs increased at time of Fifty Shades being published, so are expecting another increase of extricating people in restraints now film is released.

I was told it was about 90 minutes of your life you won't get back. Didn't see it, so I can't really offer my own opinion. I won't spend the money on it though.

From what I gather, the heroine of the story comes to a D/s relationship at least initially "for the money".

Not since "Pretty Woman" has a prostitution story been so embraced by the general public.

(I remember when the book first came out and our dear neighbor, old enough to be Rosa's mother, was flushed with excitement over the book and asked Rosa if she was going to read it. My honey just replied, "I don't need to read it. I live it." Boy did my neighbor learn a lot about us soon after that bombshell was dropped!)

I started laughing. I love it!

I am trying to get my husband to take me, but he is afraid he will be the only male in the theater. I have lots of friends going with their husbands, so I hope to get the scoop later this, weekend. I don't trust reviews on movies like this, too many people have judged it before even seeing it. I have read most of book one, so maybe will finish before seeing the movie.

It was my daughter who urged me to read the books, which I did with relish. If you look at it this way, I believe the books can be the key to unlocking secret desires many of us have but never allow to break free! (the same can be said of reading stories here at the LSF!)
I had been reading erotica and spanking stories, but this one was coming from a completely different angle of total innocence. The documentary about the phenomenon of the books included people who stated that the only ones titillated by reading them were those who were "not getting any" in real life! This may be true, but I believe it motivated many women to want to experiment as the descriptions were certainly stimulating enough. I know that many in the BDSM communities took exception to the suggestion that Christian likes to "hurt" women because he was abused as a child, a valid concern here.
But if you take it as I'm sure it is meant to be, it is an endearing journey of a young virgin being initiated into a world of submission and fulfilment. My daughter says she will go with me to see it, my husband has also agreed to go with me, so I will report my findings when this happens!

I plan to see it this week. My wife said she will rent it and watch it with me on pay per view. I will let my fellow library member know my thoughts after I see it and hope others will too.
