Crazy UK Censorship

That's seriously fucked-up. And completely irrational, but that's government by do-gooders for you. I can see an increase in business for German, Japanese and Eastern European porn sites, so it's good for them but UK porn producers, especially spanking and BDSM producers will likely take a serious hit. I think Pandora Blake, Sarah Bright, etc. will face a lot of problems...

I wish I could say I'm surprised by the move but I'm not.

I find it interesting that "aggressive whipping" is banned but plain old "whipping" isn't... does that mean one of the author's compiling this law has a thing for gentle whipping? :p

Another example of a government crushing our freedom. It sucks big time

I could understand it if the objective was to prevent children from watching porn (which personally I would favour), but this legislation does not appear to do that. I am unclear whether the legislation prevents the listed types of porn being distributed from UK-based servers (although it would be easy to get round that), but it does not seem to attempt to prevent such material being viewed in the UK (which would be a very dangerous step within the much broader context of civil liberties, but that may be the next step once this legislation fails). As I understand it the legislation confines itself to preventing certain types of porn being produced in the UK. Does this mean we can look forward to a stream of attractive young ladies visiting Ireland to have their bottoms smacked? And will the Bible-bashing Democratic Unionist Party demand that the Republic of Ireland passes similar legislation, and will the Irish government refuse just to spite them? It seems to me the whole thing is poorly thought through, but moral issues aside it has very sinister overtones.

Is that protest petition only for UK citizens to sign, or can a Yank add his/her signature?

Far as I can make out anyone can sign... at least it appears that way as you can select which country you're in from a dropdown list.

Looking at the list, it seems extremely ill-thought-out. All spanking is banned, but not whipping if it isn't aggressive! Penetration by "any object associated with violence" - could mean anything. And facesitting! Only conceivably violent if the owner of the face can't breathe. I suspect this wasn't properly debated, because there are MPs too sensible to go along with this.
