Crazy UK Censorship

This is what happens when governments don't fear their people.

Having seen the list of acts whose depictions they're banning, I suspect there might be a strong correlation with the sort of things that newspapers like the defunct 'News of the World' used to catch MP's being involved in...!

I sincerely hope this badly-designed bit of legislation doesn't apply in Scotland, where we have our own legal system. It seems designed to pander to the predjudices of narrow-minded conformists, and have been rushed through without proper consideration of its implications - or even accurate definitions of the acts it's trying to ban. I imagine it was simply intended as a vote-catcher.

For the United Kingdom and the United States (and other free countries), it's like we borrow freedom from these people with a high interest rate. They always want something back. Where do these people come up with such stupidity? I hope it's not true. Here in the States they're thinking about us paying to get on the Internet. They tried making us pay for email service like a telephone call, but that fell through the cracks.

The regulations were even discussed (rationally) on BBC Radio 4 this morning. I do wonder how seriously they will be/can be policed.

I'm ashamed to be counted in an electorate whose government can be not only so illiberal but also ethically illiterate and legislatively haphazard.

Yep, I hear you giles. Here in the States, it's looking more and more like George Orwell's 1984. Like walking around looking for shadows and hidden cameras.

I know what you mean, bendy. Who would've thought the government would systematically mine our cellphone and internet activity and gather it all together as "metadata", along with requiring the software makers and internet providers to leave a "backdoor" for their snooping. And that the companies would go along with it? Whatever happened to the First Amendment? Or the Fourth? The only comfort is that there's so much data available to them that there's not enough people to go through it all, so a lot of personal info will never come to light anyway. That and the sheer incompetence of the government today gives me a small measure of hope that there may actually be some level of privacy left.

Even by the standards of our present dickhead government this is amazingly stupid. All it means is that foreign makers of porn videos can include whatever, while UK porn makers will be hampered by these idiot prudish restrictions. Another kick in the teeth for British industry....

Phil, maybe we should just take the British Parliament and the US Congress and put them all in a big circle in the center of a room wearing diapers and their thumbs in their mouths. Then tell them, "When you decide you can run a country sensibly let us know!!!!
