An enterprising young woman in need of more money decided to become a Professional Spanker of Children in 1905. Here's the link to the article excerpt on CorPun:

OMG! I must find a way to work this lady into a Spank Shop. I wonder if she's somehow related to Andrea? A question I have from the article, what is the skate strap?

Good Lord, where was this woman when I was younger? Where is she now that I'm older (although she might be a tad too old by now to effectively keep me in line)? Where are the women like her today? Oh, yes, they are employed by the various dungeons around the globe which are nowhere near where I live. *SIGH*

To my understanding a skate strap was a thin piece of leather used to hold a roller skate onto the bottom of the wearer's shoe.

Interesting article to say the least. However, she took a big chance in not having one of the children claiming she touched them inappropriately. I wonder how parents would feel about that in today's day and age.

Thanks for that DarkRiver. Very interesting. I had a friend who used to get it with an old sewing machine belt.

Remember this was 1905, inappropriate touching wasn't discussed. Also society hadn't trained their kids to view every stranger as a potential monster. Consider too the era, there's a news article describing a judge ordering a nine-year-old to be flogged for stealing bread and that was in 1915.

Yes, kids could also be birched by orders of the court. Very different attitudes.

Back in those days, if touching happened it was generally ignored. Especially if it involved an older female and young male.

The past is a different country. It's hard to believe that civilized folk every lived that way.

Considering the vandals, gangs, violence, and drug problems schools have to deal with now, there's a strong argument that people (including children) were more civilized back then.

The good soldier Schweik tells, among other anecdotes, that he knew a shoemaker in Prague, who supplied his income by spanking the children in the neighbourhood. The parents paid him a fixed sun every month. This way he combined his hobby with an extra income.
