When I think of widely used cocaine I think 80s, but you're right, it could be much sooner. I recently got around to watching the movie Bright Young Things 9an adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's novel Vile Bodies) and one of the funniest parts of that movie was an old guy who mistook Coke for snuff. And then there's the most famous literary cocaine addict of them all - Sherlock Homes (who used to shoot up with cocaine and heroin).
But the image of someone surrounded by decadent luxury lining up some coke on cane mark that he's just inflicted on call girl's bottom, it's one that I'd love to use but I'd need the rest of the story to hook it to.
