Great piece and quite brave, but it gives hope to many. I can remember years ago being on an S&M chatroom and informed that spanking was almost vanilla. When she speaks of writing it does make one wonder if she is a writer here. I also identified with her recognising the interest early and seeking out references and occasionally throwing out a comment to see what sort of a reaction, if any, it would provoke.

I also admire her courage but do not quite understand why she felt the need to go public. On a related aspect, and as she said she had a folder with her favorite stories, it's hard to imagine she's not familiar with this site.

I believe she went public because she is a writer who lives much of her life in the public eye. I could be wrong but I think that many of her articles give details on her life - so this is just one more detail that she has revealed to the public...

But I could be wrong about that. I've found her archive at http://www.jilliannyc.com/clips.html and most of those stories don't seem to be about her... But the "coming out" story is the only one that she has had published in the New York Times. Maybe that was part of her motivate - writing an article that was so powerful that it would be accepted by the New York Times.

Regardless, this has me thinking of the "it gets better" campaign. I'd love to see a series of successful (or even relatively average) people coming out and saying "Yes, I'm into spanking. It's something I enjoy and shouldn't looked at as weird.".

Very courageous to write the article. Definitely a fetish we spankos have had from birth.

And you think you're the only one who does this?

Fascinating article - thank-you Jefesse for the link. I was intrigued by the statement that her favourite stories involved men platonically spanking other men because, as she puts it, there is no stand-in for 'me'. Is this a common phenomenon? I personally (being male) tend to identify with the male characters in stories, or if the story involves two females I tend to read the story as a voyeur (external to the story). I find it difficult to imagine having a 'hangup' about spanking without it being sexual. I would be curious to know what others think.

No, people like Jillian Keenan who go public are the exception. Those of us who post anonymously are the vast majority.

I don't think it's so strange. It doesn't really describe me.com but: My main interest is man-spanks-woman, but when reading or writing stories like that I very much focus on the woman, rather than the man. The spanker is far less interesting to me than the spankee. I would not say the fantasy-female-spankee is a "stand-in" for me, not would I say I feel like a voyeur.

Basically, it's complicated and weird!

I can relate so much with her, except she does share with her friend, David. She has this exception over me. It would be great for her to write in the LSF. If she had explored the topic, she would have eventually have found the LSF. Maybe she is already here. How interesting.
