There seemed to be an inner circle of authors who commented on each others work,

Well, EVERYONE, karoicanada, is welcome to join the inner circle here... The more the merrier!!! The LSF is a very friendly and supportive place to be for both readers and writes alike... even for the shy ones amongst us.

And BRAVO Rick for what you shared, very cleverly and metaphorically, earlier on this forum. I wholeheartedly agree.

I must confess I started out here being a shy reader who was afraid to comment (a combo of hiding in the closet and not sure of what to say that wasn't generic or hadn't already been said).. However, I soon came to realise how wonderful, supportive and friendly the LSF is when one takes the opportunity to post feedback and now I comment on almost everything I read.... (and really it doesn't have to be anything profound..just a matter of saying what you liked about a story/ character and perhaps why you liked it..(it doesn't even have to be about the spanking part itself... maybe the emotions conveyed, the romantic tension, the humour.. the grumpy/petulant/strong character etc that you liked)... So... commenting doesn't have to be that scary at all, when you think about it)... And an author myself now, I realise how much receiving a comment means and is appreciated by all authors alike. If everyone free-loaded here, this wouldn't be the wonderful, supportive and friendly place that it is now. So my advice to all those shy commenters, who have got themselves into the habit of hiding in the shadows, is to give commenting a go, before you shy away from it entirely and experience the support and friendliness this site has to give!!

Just recently several readers have read a number of my stories in succession.
Although I'm pleased they did, and I hope they enjoyed them; it would be rather nice to be told that.
Surely no-one would read a long serial if they didn't enjoy it. I don't expect any clever literary criticism or gushing praise.
A simple "I enjoyed that and thanks for writing and posting it here" , and perhaps a little bit more would suffice quite adequately.

After all if I charged my consultancy rate for the time most stories took to me write, then the fee would be in the thousands. Then that would make it work and may destroy the fun element though!
Don't think that I'm bitter -I'm not-if readers genuinely don't want to comment then Ok, but if its just laziness or apathy , then that's not.

. There seemed to be an inner circle of authors who commented on each others work, and as I was not a part of that,

It might seem that way, but I see it differently. The various writers here are used to writing so have no problems when it comes to posting comments. And they know what it's like to get comments, so they leave them.

A while ago, I decide to try to comment on every story I read. Alas, I don't have umlimited time to read and write, and often I write new stories rather than reading, but I've posted more than 600 comments here.

Quite right. The inner circle at LSF is everyone who participates. Although authors seem to predominate, there are members (some active now, some who seem to have drifted away), who have authored few works or none who have been active commenters and frequent post-ers on the Forum They are as integral (and accepted) as part of the (very wide) inner circle here. I'm always amazed that it never seemed to develop the cliques and factions that seem so prevalent elsewhere. I attribute it to the tone set by The Management.

It doesn't have to be in good English – just your feedback, however you want to express it.

Not strictly true imo. My comments still have to be validated apparently and the last one "Really great series!" was rejected. Not everyone feels like writing expansively when they simply want to give an author some praise.

I'm not going to debate the point, since I neither set not enforce the standards. I don't write expansive comments - seldom more than a sentence or two. I try, though, to say WHY I enjoyed a story - it was funny, it was sexy, a character was compelling, there was a a particular phrase I liked. If you write just a few more words of that nature - nothing expansive - I'm sure your comments will be accepted. I believe once you're no longer being moderated, you'll get a bit more leeway. While being moderated, if you keep saying "good story," great story" and "really good story" the moderator won't even be sure that you actually read the story. That's what they're trying to avoid. Trying to be helpful here.

I have to agree with njrick's comment, and I am sure all the authors here appreciate any effort you make. If at first you find commenting tough then we appreciate it even more when you do get your comments out there.

When I started commenting I copied a sentence or two from other commenter's, that was really easy...LOL. Soon I was able to put together a couple of sentences all by myself but it did take me some time to get it down pat. On the rare occasion I also get a comment rejected, so don't feel bad, it happens to everyone.

Keep smiling and keep trying please, I know it can be hard but you will succeed!!

The commenting definitely gets easier. I started off leaving generic comments like "Nice story!" or "Great work!" and later progressed to leaving more detailed feedback and even constructive criticism. Like with anything else, the more you practice and participate, the more skilled you become.

I always try to comment if something in a story really stood out to me, whether it was a clever plot, well-written details, engaging characters, or something else unique and worthy of mention. When I really enjoyed the story, it's usually easy and fun to tell the author what I liked about it.
