Miley Cyrus

I have no problem with someone in her late teens / early twenties embracing her sensuality and taking ownership of her body. If a girl likes to feel the air down there by wearing a short skirt with nothing under it, that's her business - as long as she isn't flashing kids.

At least kids who weren't expecting it. I would have no problems if Miley went to a nude beach where there were families walking around.

The thing is, Miley isn't the average girl. She's a role model. Countless young teens and more than a few tweens look up to her. Hannah Montana might not be as hot as it once was, but it's still worshiped by impressionable girls. And while I don't have a problem with a girl's Miley age knowingly choosing to do something I do have a problem with young teens slavishly aping her.

Miley has appeared on Youtube smoking up (something that she claimed was legal, but those who use that substance say that her reactions were all wrong). She's appeared commenting on her Bob Marley cake - something along the lines of "you know you're a pot head when you get a Bob Marley cake". Now those new photos have appeared.

Personally, I feel that if she wants to publicly explore those things then she should redo do her public persona. Make a public break with the Hannah Montana years. Abandon her days of child (or teen) stardom and make it as the young woman she is. Because I know that somewhere out there are young fans wondering if they should wear underwear now that they know that Hannah Montana doesn't.

Goodgulf makes an excellent point. The more I learn about this, the more convinced I am that this was staged on her part, and the fact that she did it AS a teen and child icon makes it doubly problematic.

No, she's still cashing in on her old fans as she tries to find new ones. Say what you want about Alyssa Milano - when she made the transition from child star to mature star she didn't try to drag any fans with her (except for the ones that wanted to see her do those early nude roles). But that was another era - before Disney started to do lifestyle work around its young star.

As for it being staged - I think it was simply carelessness on her part. She probably goes half naked most of the time while using 'substances' and relaxing with friends. So far there have only been a couple of "true life" moments that have hit Youtube, but sooner or later one of her 'friends' is going to sell her out to tabloid journalists.

Still - it is her life. I won't care except for that role model thing.

Is it bad form to resurrect old posts? Not to lower the tone, but anything that leads to fantasies involving spankings by Liam Hemsworth (or any Hemsworth) has some merit, surely.

It doesn't bother me that she went pantie-less,that is her business, but why can't she get out of a car without sharing it with the world. What happened to sitting, standing and walking like a lady? You know she has been taught how to get in and out of a car gracefully. If not, she should have been.

I think young Miley really does have some strong exhibitionist leanings.

I think that the real problem is the paparazzi lying in wait and using all sorts of camera angles, for example lying on the ground or climbing trees, to take embarrassing pictures of celebrities. If any of us had photographers following us around constantly I'm sure they could make us look bad. Personally I think paparazzi should be subject to anti-stalking laws.

What about the public's "right to know?" Aren't we entitled to know that Miley Cyrus goes around panty-less? Without the diligence of the paparazzi common citizens would be deprived of that knowledge, and democracy would founder as a result.
