I say we should invite her to become a member of the Library here.

Seconded! She is an inspiration to many. A spunky lady, if I'm allowed to say that, LOL!

Following on with Rick's suggestion above reminds me of Sharon Greene. For those of you who don't know, Sharon Greene started as a sci-fi and fantasy writer. Her plots seemed to usually involve a modern day woman from an advanced culture who is placed in a barbarian culture and must adapt. Naturally the barbarians treat their women as chattels and the sexual tension resulting from this clash leads to interesting encounters.

Early on some one noticed that Greene's barbarians frequently reached for the switch when their women disobeyed. At first she was a bit coy in her descriptions but as time passed it became more and more apparent that what was going on here was...spanking!

This did not go unnoticed in some circles and now Greene writes full blown spanko novels over at Blushing Books. So it turns out she was a spanko all along. I don't know about Rowling and I did not read HP so I can't say---but you never know. Until you do, that is. LOL.

BTW my new novel is very Greene-ish. I found her an inspiration.

So while we're at it, let's invite Sharon Green.

When looking at the punishment levied on Harry and others by Dolores Umbridge you do have to consider the bucket of insanity that gave it. I'm still bitter that she wasn't killed off in Deathly Hallows.

As I understand it, JKR has said that Umbridge is now a permanent resident of Azkaban. I'm guessing that for her, death would have been too lenient.

I believe it was in book 4 when Molly Weasley comes to Hogwarts for the finals of the Goblet of Fire with her oldest son that she mentions that Arthur still has the marks from the time the two of them were caught out of their dorms at night. I have often wondered if J. K. Rowling is one of us, too. Wouldn't it be a hoot to find out that she's actually a member or even an author of the library under a different name. I also agree with Rick that we should invite her to join our group.

Aha! I'd forgotten about that one. I knew there was at least one I'd missed. Thank you.

When she appeared at Dumbledore's funeral, I wanted to kick her!

I'm glad Umbridge ended up in Azkaban, but with the new regime would the Dementors still even be a factor? They were largely what made Azkaban so hellish and they showed that they were no longer something the wizards could control after they were used by Voldemort. I just think after what Umbridge did her punishment should have been more widely known, rather than a throwaway lne by Rowlings after the finale. I went to a screening of Phoenix not long before the final part of Deathly Hallows came out and when Umbridge first appears on screen there was this hiss of intense loathing from everyone in the cinema. I'd say she's probably one of the most hated characters in the saga. Kudos to Imelda Staunton for playing her so brilliantly in the films.

I sure as hell hope not. Using them as prison guards effectively made Magical Britain a dystopia.

Umbridge was evil, but so are a lot of other people. Normal jail or execution should be just fine for her (I'd support the latter in her case; she was basically a wizard Quisling).

I still can't get over her using Moody's eye to guard her door. People have wondered if due to the regular mentions of spanking in the Wheel of Time novels that Robert Jordan may have been a spanko and I think from what I've heard Brandon Sanderson kept it up when he took over after Jordan's untimely death and finished the series off.

Brandon Sanderson did have one scene involving spanking but he said in interviews that it was in Robert Jordan's notes and while he was not comfortable with it he wanted to keep the story as close to what Robert Jordan had planned as possible so the scene stayed in.
