Sebastian:
I talked so much that the author told me that there were others waiting.

Contrary to what has been said here, you won't get my participation because I can't access any stories to comment on.

Some of you have suggested that I will be able to view stories I have already read using the "Read" function. However, I am blocked from this function. This doesn't work.

Some of you have suggested that if I wait for another day I'll be able to view a few more stories, and make comment on them. I've waited 24 hours and I'm still being blocked. This doesn't work.

Some of you have suggested using the "Search" function. I am blocked from this function too. This doesn't work.

I have read the sections Februs suggested to me, and though I read quite carefully was unable to find any information to help me comment on stories that I have been blocked from. This doesn't work.

I'd ask that you please all stop with the righteous lectures you've been posting. I'm perfectly willing to meet this communities standards of commenting, I never said differently. I think the requirement is silly, but I'm still perfectly willing to participate. Yes, I disagree with some of you, but never did I suspect that an aside comment such as the one that I made would elicit such an overwhelmingly defensive response from the community. The purpose of the post wasn't to rant about the requirement, it was to seek help in fulfilling the participation requirement. Instead, most of you have chosen to focus on the small aside comment I made and launch a verbal tirade on me for it, many of you offering no help whatsoever in solving my problem. A strange move for a community hoping to obtain further participation from members.

I repeat:
I am here for one reason only.

How can I view stories to comment on as a "Limited User"?

Many thanks for the several comments on my flicking problem, I appreciate the help offered in identifying the different types of story on offer, however in my own defense I must point out that I believe most of my flicking is done when perusing the Latest Additions where you have to open the story to find out the type of content. I did not realise that I was possibly causing problems by doing this, I do not dispute that I was informed of the dangers but I obviously did not understand (I would not claim to be a computer whiz!!!). In closing I can only apologise and ask whether I am banned sine die or for a period of time.

The vast majority of limited users have been able to work out both how to view stories and to comment on them but I'll spell it out for you. You can still view any of the stories on the site (subject to whatever daily limit is in effect) via one of the following 3 methods:

1. click on one of the books (labelled A to Z) on the main bookshelf graphic. This will list all those items beginning with a particular letter.

2. click the button labelled 'Authors'. This will provide a table of all the different authors represented on the site. Clicking one of the author name will take you to their author page where all their submissions are listed.

3. entering the first part of an author's name where it says "Enter Author" on the menu. This is a predictive input field that will allow you to select an author and visit their author page as described in (2) above.

Comments can be left on items either from within the story viewer or by clicking the comment icon associated with a particular item.

Well if you make a derogatory comment towards a large number of people in one go, especially those who are providing you with something for nothing, there's usually a less than positive response.

The admins send out the following standard wording to those repeatedly flicking:

Please don't flick through stories at a rate of 5 or more a minute as it places a large load on our database server and will result in your account being disabled.

After sending several of these and getting no response and the flicking continuing unabated we send out:

Please don't flick through stories at a rate of 5 or more a minute as it places a large load on our database server and will result in your account being disabled. Final warning.

I don't think either of these, almost identical messages, require any computer knowledge whatsoever, let alone being a whizz.

No-one on the LSF gets their account suspended for flicking without first having received numerous warnings which they haven't even done us the courtesy of replying to.

There is no set answer to this. From time to time we occasionally reconsider re-activating accounts.

Quickpaw, there is one simple way to get around commenting...and you have proved you have the ability. Maybe in a slightly negative manner but still proof. I suggest you write a few stories about the situations you like to read about, say one story every month for a year. Then you will understand the other side of the argument that you think is "silly."

By the way, not everyone ranted and raved, I know there were offers to help you out so cut the crap and just do what is required or else suffer the consequences. You clearly have the intelligence to learn and do what is required, so just do it and quit whining.

I would also like to point out that you were blocked twice last year. Once on the 7th September and again on the 15 Sep... for flicking. This is how long you have been doing it for!

Your post demonstrates that you either didn't read or ignored my post (quite surprising considering the context this conversation is occurring in... a digital library) I never said everyone ranted and raved. I haven't been whining. I made one aside comment about what I believe is a bad policy, and many members of the community pounced on me. I said quite clearly in my post that "I am here for one reason only. How can I view stories to comment on as a "Limited User"?".

But I didn't make any derogatory comment. I said that I didn't like the policy, that I thought it was silly. But that doesn't constitute an insult to anyone.

For example, I could say that I think Obamacare in the United States is a bad policy (again, just a example). That doesn't constitute an attack on the american people, the country, or even the president himself. It just means I don't like the policy.

Finally, I'd like to thank Februs for helping solve my problem. Though now that I'm stepping into being a helpful member of this community, I feel that I should say that I think most members of our community would appreciate it if technical support advice wasn't always coupled with insults and derogatory statements.

Quickpaw and Carto75, considering the nature of the stories featured on this site, it should not come as a shock that certain behavioral standards are required to participate, and if those are not met, punishments are meted out. Much like the heroes of our beloved stories, it seems like many people here suggest you either do as told, or face the consequences. Pretty appropriate right?

You said...

Quickpaw:
But now that I know that we are in a community so desperate for activity that it forces all individuals to make comments.

And then seemed surprised, and still are apparently, as to why that kind of comment would result in you getting a negative response.

People who raise a question - without adding some bitchy comment - find that most of us, including "Tech Support", will be only too happy to help. Those who bitch and whine and make negative assertions will find a less helpful response. I'm sure I don't need to explain the mechanics of this to you.
