I have been demoted to a limited account due to my lack of commenting. I didn't comment because I didn't know that it was required by the community, and I don't feel entirely at ease with it.

But now that I know that we are in a community so desperate for activity that it forces all individuals to make comments. I am wondering how I can remove the "limited" status from my account. Because all of the tools at the top are blocked, I can't access a story to comment on.

How do I make a comment if I'm blocked from doing so?

Quickpaw, you really mis-charactrise this !

We are most certainly NOT desperate for activity - we simply expect that to be a member of this community that you participate in some way. Making comments would be a good start.

As a non-commenter you will have been shown an announcement banner encouraging you to leave a comment. This will have been displayed permanently just below the main site menu. If you're not at ease with typing half a dozen words now and again then don't do so.

No-one within the community is "desperate" for activity and if that's the way you feel about it then I'm sure there are plenty of other sites where you can read whatever you wish without having to show any signs of life.

Even though your status is limited at present it's still possible to locate and view stories, and comment on them, but that would involve having to read some of the Help text and having a basic understanding of how the site works. I suspect that is also too much trouble for you.

Quickpaw - you are welcome. The site has grown enormously, which puts strain on the organisers, and the requirement for occasional commenting is one response to this. It's also a way of thanking the authors, who nearly all appreciate comments.

Why are you uncomfortable commenting? Your post doesn't suggest you have great trouble expressing yourself. If you found a character or a description or an original idea in a story particularly appealing, say so. You don't need to write an essay.

My question is this and only this:

Currently whenever I try to view a story, I am blocked by the banner declaring that I am a "limited" user. How can I comment on a story if I am blocked from the "Latest", "Search" and other such functions?

I apologize if my post rubs some of you the wrong way, I just think it's ridiculous that viewers are required to comment. It comes off as a way to inspire disingenuous comments, and unauthentic activity. I've never seen a database that has a similar requirement, and so I was caught off guard. I'm not here to rant, the main purpose of this post is to discover how I can comment on a story when this website blocks me from viewing any.

I think you are not blocked entirely, tomorrow you could read a certain amount of stories again.
Don't know the exact number, maybe 10 or so.
You can also comment at each time on stories you already read. Go into the menue "read" and select "my read items". You'll find all stories you have already viewed. At the end of every item you have a box. Click on it and then the comment-windows for that story opens. Now you can leave a comment on all stories you have already read.

See the section on Finding items to read within the Help section of the site for the various ways of accessing stories.

See the section on Commenting within the Help section of the site in order to discover how you can comment on a story (either from within the story viewer or not).

See the section on Commenting within the Help section of the site in order to understand what a limited account constitutes.

Well Quickpaw, I would point out that this is first and foremost a community that writes and reads spanking fiction. I never thought of myself as a database manager or a story coder/programmer, nor have I thought of our librarians as compilers or optimizers.

So it is not the database that is requiring you to comment, it is simply the dynamics of this community that expect it. In the same way as you wouldn't sit in your lounge reading the paper and never comment to your SO, partner or spouse (assuming you have one) on any of the articles you have read that interest you, I can't see why you have an issue commenting on anything here that interests you, challenges your imagination or sparks some level of respect for a writer whose work you have just read. I also find it simply amazing that you would accept something from someone in real life (a librarian at your local librarian, for instance) without managing a simple "thank you" , yet you have such a negative reaction when prompted here after having read some significant amount of content. The clip level at which you were asked to comment is pretty high, so I cannot imagine how you would think that this was onerous.

Obviously, the Spanking Library is not simply a "database". And by writing "viewers are required to comment" you are using Present Tense as if commenting were a requirement which is present all day long. As you know, that's not the case. Viewers are required to comment once in a very while.
You are entitled to your opinion that this requirement is
Quickpaw:
ridiculous

Maybe another Spanking Library will work as a "database" without anyone who has to comment once in a very while. Try to found that Alternative Library. But please don't enter a community and start discussing the very basic agreements of it before contributing anything to a community.

Quickpaw, once you truly join the community by commenting, engaging in dialogue with authors and other members, and so forth (which I have confidence you can and will), you'll understand why this site is so much different (and better!) than other places on the web. because we truly are a community (not, as several other members have stated, a "database").

I've noticed that you've read 338 stories. Surely, since you keep coming back for more, there were more than two of them that touched you (in either a good way or bad) that you could have left more than a perfunctory comment.

The Management here - which provides a wonderful site for us to enjoy, both free, and free of ads, have decided, in inviting us to be their guests, that a "community" is what they want their library to be, and set the rules (and tone) for it's enjoyment. As guests, we need to accept what is being offered, or go elsewhere. When you opt to "accept" is when you'll begin to fully enjoy.

I look forward to your participation!
