I'e decided to post here again, and no, not in reply to my previous post, as brilliant as it was. This time I'm going to post not about my own motiviations for 'clicking' on a story, but on my casual observations as to OTHER people's choices.
I recently posted two stories - "Girl Scout Trip" and "Lainy is Curious." They appeard within minutes of each other, and have remained together on the front page now for about a day. They are by the same author, and due to the time necessary for validation to take place (all explained in early posts here), there are very few clues as to what the stories are about. The only clue as to 'quality' is that 'Lainy' quickly received one, then two, and evenutally three favorable comments, while "GS Trip" received none; neither was marked as a 'favorite.' 'Lainy' was shorter (1/4 the length), perhaps making it more attractive to someone wanting a quick read.
So which of the two stories got the most views? 'GS Trip' jumped shead, and stayed there, attracting 50% more readers. I would note that BOTH stories involve minor teens getting spanked, but the only real clue that suggests that either might not be about an adult spanking is that 'Girl Scout' appears in the one title. I say this becaause, while there are a few (but often vocal) commenters to profess not to like stories about minors, I've heard very few peopel say that they specifically LIKE stories about kids getting it. Yet from my own observation (on stories written both by myself and others) is that those with "school" or 'babysitter" or "naughty" in the titles (all evoking images of children) tend to draw readers. Therefore, in the interst of gainiung readers, I've decided to title ALL my future stories as "Naughty Girl Scout Babysitters Get Paddled in School." |
