Even if there always are exceptions, I can't imagine that homosexuals in general have been driven into it. I believe that during life we meet people we really get along with, but if they are same sex, usually we call them friends, while we settle down with one of the opposite sex because the biological and societal drive to reproduce. Sometimes I do envy homosexuals in part though. I'm thinking of the general difference that with age, women tend to grow less interested in sex than men, in particular after the menopause (which is one of the reasons why some men tend to trade their lifelong partner for a younger model). Two men living together might see more bedroom action than the average heterosexual man.
By the way, I guess I should really worry about believability. I'm an unspanked Swede who tries to write spanking stories in a foreign language, set in parts of the world I've never been to, often portraying characters of the opposite sex.
