This one is not really a spanking story, but it did a whole lot for me. Before Robert Jordan began his unfinished 4.4 million words Wheel of Time epos, he spent several years practicing writing Conan the Barbarian sleaze. Most of his production contained at least one spanking and since this was before I had really discovered my kink or even knew that there were such a thing as a spanking story or a forum like the LSF, that one spanking quite did it for me. Jordan introduced a reoccurring character, Karela, who had a love/hate relation with Conan, trying to kill him several times, but instead for succeeding, she had a tendency to end up spanked, followed by steamy sex, for instance in Conan the Triumphant. It was often combined with mind-controlled naked dancing, kinky outfits, being dragged naked onto an altar, a mighty queen falling from her position and having to work naked in the kitchen, demon gods abusing women, etc. The usual sexist fantasy stuff so to say, but I really enjoyed reading those stories, because Conan never really seemed to be the lead character. Basically, he wandered through the plot, aiming to make a buck as a fighter, guard or thief, a buck that he immediately and compulsory blew on alcohol and prostitutes, or just spanking a girl when she gave him lip (which surprisingly often was someone who turned out to be a noble, which kick-started a whole range of events). Often without even knowing it, he in the process disrupted the high-flying plans of some evil sorcerer or mad king plotting to take over the land or the world and in the end he moved on without even having a clue of the tremendous impact he'd had on the events and it's all neatly packed in an excess of sex and violence. It was just what I needed to survive the early 80s.
Now, it's probably all down the sexist and misogynic vault that everybody wants to forget these days. When this thread reminded me of reading that book, I looked for it on the Internet. One of the top search results was "Problematic bits in books you otherwise love", which listed most of the passages that had made the most for me. These books sometimes were published without Jordan's name on the cover and they are these days known as "his Old Shame" from what I understand, but I have to admit that I like them more than WoT, which is way too wordy for me. If you shunned Tolkien because it took them hundreds and hundreds of pages to even get their butts out of the Shire, it's nothing compared to WoT. We're talking tens of thousands of words before we have even made it past the description of the room, what people look like and what they're wearing. I'm ranting a bit here of course, but you get the picture. |
