Earlier today, I read A Good Hand Spanking by Goodgulf. While the story is good as a stand alone story, a sequel would be nice. In fact, I think there's a broad hint by Goodgulf that a sequel will be coming.

"We also have to have another part on "Evil Daughter Turns the Tables" by Cherry Red. We are left with the daughter having spanked her mother, and her brother who had watched the spanking of his mom from his hiding place in the ceiling, now crawling away and saying he had a plan to get things back to normal. Sure would like to know that plan, we have waited several weeks now and am still waiting...and waiting...and waiting.|

There are a large number of stories that I've read on here that I really wish had sequels. A number of Goodgulf's works in particular. However, I sometimes think that it is best to leave standalone stories as they are. As much as we may want a follow up to a story, if it's well written it should give us enough of an idea of what might happen next. Not really knowing and using our own imagination to work out what happens can be as exciting as having the author tell us. I have found some sequels to actually ruin a setting or a story.

That being said, I would love to see more of the 'Jennifer to Jenny' series from Goodgulf and Rachel Gordon's 'A New Start' series.

You took the words from my mouth – or should I say from my keyboard? I've had a few comments on some of my standalone stories asking for sequels. But I think it's a hallmark of a good story to leave readers imagining what comes next and mentally writing their own customized sequel tailored to their own tastes. But these are standalone stories. If it's a series/serial left in a cliffhanger, there should definitely be a continuation to wrap up the tale.

Speaking of Goodgulf he should get around to finishing part 3 of The Magistrate,

I'm not sure if it will be coming soon - or at all.

Many people have suggest sequels, but many times I feel that adding more to a story would ruin some of the charm of part 1. For example, if the story is about someone quivering at the option of being spanked - but unsure if she will be - then writing about her getting spanked diminishes the tension of the original ending.

One recent story (The Urgent Message) had a mini sequel added to it before it was posted here. The original story ended with the second phone call ("next time give me a head's up") and the "days later" bit was added after a final round of editing.

I would be interested to read members' comments regarding the use of an apostrophe in this post.

You are not alone with that request, Callingbutterfly. Surely you noticed all the pleas on her commenting board, mine included. It is indeed a riveting sequel and the lose ends are maddening. Ruegirl is one of my top ten favs, too.

To be fair, authors write on their own time and all have busy lives. These multi-episode stories flow onto the page one first begins. But a long interruption that makes the series grow cold, dampens many authors' enthusiasm. It's hard to revive a cold story.
Others may hate to end a series. There is something alive about and open series. When I end it,especially if i like the characters, I find myself mourning the loss like they were real people. Crazy, huh?
