Description of the shape and structure of buttocks, before and after spanking has lot of erotic value. I also wonder why present day writers feel shy in writing BUTTOCKS.

I agree very much.

About the word, buttocks: Somehow the word, buttocks, sounds strange to me. It might be caused by the fact that English is not first language; but I don't see it much used. In Danish we have a few word for the whole bottom, but also a word for each half of the bottom. In my Danish stories I tend to use this word for a buttock quite often in descriptions. When translating a story into English I've given up using buttock and used bottom instead, although I've felt I missed some of the erotic in the Danish version, where the word for buttock gives me a very special excitement. In my opinion "Your buttocks are gloving nicely red" gives a much stronger focus than "Your bottom are gloving nicely red".

Maybe I should start using buttocks more?

Not a question of shyness, at least not as far as I'm concerned. I just find 'buttocks' a hard, angular word, lacking in any erotic quality; for me, 'bottom' works much better. The exact French equivalent of buttocks, though, 'fesses' - now there's a word just quivering with eroticism....

But...aren't there programs that will translate any language to English?

I cannot resist this! Here is a spanking scene in Norwegian translated into Englisg by Google. James Joyce, move over!

"Suddenly she noticed that it had been totally silent. Then cut a bang through the silence, and a moment later she felt a searing pain and a heat wave that width in the buttock. Then narrow it again, and she felt the same sting and heat in the other buttock. Now she therefore rice! It hurt, but it was not as bad as she had feared, so this should she manage fine. It slammed shut, and as the blows fell faster and harder, she discovered that she had taken all wrong - this she managed simply not nice! She moaned and squirmed to get away battles, but when she stuck one hand behind to protect her ass, she realized quickly that she had made a mistake; he bent her arm behind her back so he could keep her steady as he continued to rise her. She gasped for air each time a new kind country and sobbed weakly between battles. It stung in the ass so she did not see how she would endure a single blow, but it came increasing numbers, and somehow managed her to accept them."

I don't know if it is a language thing, but buttocks does not feel natural for me. It is not a word that I would use in everyday conversations so when writing it's not a word that would I feel would not flow properly in a story. And I really like bottom. To me it has a far more erotic feel that any other word that could be used to describe that portion of the body. 😉

Diverges wants stories mentioning buttocks. I agree with him. Description of the shape and structure of buttocks, before and after spanking.has lot of erotic value. I also wonder why present day writers feel shy in writing BUTTOCKS. They rather use the term bottom pr backside instead which does not give the same kick so Io say. Is the term buttocks considered obscene? In India.the word is freely used during mutual conversation........Chandra

Well, I'll use "buttocks" occasionally in written description, as I will "posterior" and even quite rarely "hindquarters," but those terms aren't used much in direct conversation, at least not where I live (Texas in the U.S.A.), so I tend not to have my characters employ them in dialogue--although if the speaker is portrayed as a very precise, persnickety type of individual, then he/she might say "buttocks" or "posterior," especially while giving instructions or making a formal statement.

If I'm replicating first-person written material (such as a letter or diary) by a narrator/author, then I'd feel somewhat more comfortable with "buttocks" or "posterior" being used once in a while.

There are numerous synonyms for the human buttocks which I include in my stories, but my most-employed favorites would be "bottom" (naturally), "behind," "rear end," "derriere," "buns," "seat," "nether moons" and variations of "cheeks"--"asscheeks" and "buttcheeks" primarily. More colloquial/cutesy terms such as "cheekies," "caboose," "south side" and "southern hemispheres," I might use them in conversation (depending on the character speaking) yet rarely in exposition; the same would be true for more blunt terms such as "ass" or "butt," which I'd usually add "-cheeks" to for description rather than dialogue.

As to the original thread topic, I do much prefer reading (and thus also tend to write) descriptions of the spankee's derriere, before, during and after a sound chastisement, not merely its size and/or shape but also changes in coloration and/or topography (surface features) and even physical movements--twitching or trembling nervously beforehand, squirming and/or bouncing under impacts while being walloped, quivering afterward. Finally, there are the sensations involved--a feeling of vulnerability caused by baring and punitive positioning, then the sting and heat during the spanking and later the soreness (along with residual hot stinging) once it's over.

(In a third-person account or a first-person one one narrated by the spankee, the physical sensations can be directly described, but even in a story narrated by the spanker or a witness, those feelings can be postulated: "From the way Nelson was wriggling his hips and howling like a banshee while his girlfriend eagerly plastered his glowing crimson asscheeks with her sorority paddle, his chubby caboose must have been totally 'hurtin' for certain' at the time.")

In my F/M accounts, I generally prefer to describe the targeted masculine posteriors as both fully-rounded and muscularly toned, making it somewhat of a physical challenge for the feminine disciplinarians to thoroughly thrash them with full effectiveness, plus a psychological one for them to completely break down their spankees' emotional resistance.

Fortunately, the ladies always appear to impressively rise to the occasion... --C.K.

I've never really liked two of the most popular slang terms for bottom, and those are buns and butt. There's just something about them that I don't like, of the two I prefer buns. I'm also not a fan of arse, and never the American ass (an ass is a donkey). I, unlike many others here, don't mind buttocks, it always conjures up images of a round firm seat which is just begging to be smacked.

Oh, given the quality of writing I thought that might be a quote from "50 shades"......original version.

My stories would probably lose 20% of their wordcount if you took out the butt descriptions.

Wow, this has dipped into many interesting areas!

Alef's example is brilliant. More, please, of this wonderful writing!

I agree that descriptions of the bottom are welcome and often erotic, but some people like it left to their imaginations. I wouldn't put in a lot of description of the buttocks while failing to mention someone's face or hair colour.

I like the term "buttocks". It sounds squelchy, plump and buttery. "Bottom" suggests childhood and children. In fact there are so many words for the posterior or its two halves (remember, someone has one bottom but two buttocks) and nearly all of them are erotic somehow. But "buttocks" does sound either old-fashioned or scientific. A doctor might note an infected scratch to the left buttock. "Buttock" has one major disadvantage for me: as I write a lot of spanking verse, I come up against the fact that the only rhyme for it is "futtocks", a technical boat-building term. Arse and bottom aren't much better in that respect, so rear, rump, backside and behind are at an advantage.

The fact that there are so many different terms is a wonderful gift to we spanking writers. I very much enjoy using "buttocks" or "the buttocks". It's a little medical/technical in nature, and sometimes writing about a spanking in a detached pseudo-technical style can be very effective. The prize for the most flowery term would have to go to Kilahara with his "pillows of pulchritude". One term which seems to have dropped out of use is "b.t.m.". It suggests that the speaker can't quite bring themselves to say "bottom"! It was used very memorably by Dylan Thomas in Under Milk Wood:

Learn him with a slipper on his b.t.m. !
