I think you have to define "unfair."

In my favorite stories, the heroine is often punished for capricious, silly, or "unfair" reasons, at least on the face of it. Indeed, is there ever really a "just" reason to spank an adult woman? No. But thematically, the heroine is punished not because of her misdeed, but because of her "naughty" desire to be spanked.

In THE TALK by Chard T. Shelly is punished by her mother after her mom discovers the family's computer is littered with the history of her daughter's visits to spanking story sites (like our library, no doubt!) Shelly confesses to her mom that she has always wanted to know what a spanking was like, and her mom points out that leaving the history there for her little brother to find COULD be considered a spank-able offense. Shelly is spanked for a "crime", yes, but she is really spanked because of her curiosity.

In KAT'S CURIOSITY by TipTopper the heroine goes to the Principal to ask for a spanking...she gets it, and then some, when the Principal discovers that she is not wearing regulation panties.

In BRITTANY'S WARM RETURN TO KENTWOOD HIGH by EdB a famous Pop-tart borrows her friends school uniform to returns to High School and experience an old fashioned spanking. Her crime? Talking in the class she never attended, an offense that results in a painful bare bottom spanking and a humiliating session of corner time.

In DJ Black's BACK TO SCHOOL the schoolmaster's wife puts on her old school uniform and sneaks back into school for the express purpose of getting a spanking. Unfortunately, when an investor arrives with her husband's boss, her punishment becomes painfully realistic. To her shock and horror, she also ends up enrolled in the school for the rest of the semester, where the investor will expect to see her regularly disciplined.

The last point is key. In all these cases, the good girl's WANT to be punished, but once the punishment process starts, they behave and feel like any other naughty girl who desperately wants to avoid the first (or next) spank! They're all Butterflys in their tummies, sweaty palms, tears, and promises to be "good."

Of course they haven't really been bad? Or have they? Is the desire to be spanked itself a spankable offense? In these stories it certainly is. And what more appropriate punishment for a good girl with naughty fantasies than to experience the punishment she gloated over when others got it?

In all these stories too the punishment is more severe, painful, and realistic than the girl had imagined. The punishment for her fantasy is the painful reality of bare bottom discipline.

In THE MAGISTRATE Goodgulf makes this case in a very clever way. The Magistrate's goody-goody niece, Tracy, visits the prison to see her Uncle. But when her naughty curiosity about spanking gets the best of her and she decides to wait to see her Uncle in the same room where the female prisoners are waiting to be punished she is mistaken for an inmate. By the time her Uncle arrives Tracy is stripped, gagged, and tied down over the whipping bench, and as her bottom looks as naughty as the other four inmates her Uncle announces the punishments are to commences forthwith.

"Grunts and squeals arose from the waiting 'culprits about to be on the receiving end of justice', but they were ignored. "

Goodgulf uses the grammar to lump Tracy in with the "other miscreants" about to receive "justice" -- thus stating what the reader already feels in their heart: Good girl Tracy is in fact a very naughty girl, and her punishment is as just as if she had tried to blow up parliament.

Unjust punishments? Perhaps. But inside every good girl reading this post now is a naughty girl just asking to be spanked.

Justice and fairness may be allright, but an author may be forgiven, if he bends the rules to ensure, that somebody is spanked. After all thi is a spanking library!

Dr Keates' brilliant new story 'A School Inspector' must be the pinnacle of unfairness. Basically an extremely competent Headmistress is severely punished for her principles in an extremely bizarre society.

I have just stumbled on this thread only to find myself at the end of it. Thank you kind sir!

This subject is dear to my heart, as most of my stories & indeed fantasies are unfair. At least they're unfair in a sane universe; they're not unfair according to the rules of this universe, however unfair those rules themselves may be. For me, in order to work, the spanking must be for punishment for breaking rules--always. The offender may hate/resent the rules--don't we all?--but they recognise that they exist and that they've broken them.

I did wonder whether there was some scale where the more the punishment is fair the more our sympathies are with the spanker, while the more it's unfair our sympathies are with the spanked. But I can think of too many exceptions to this. I thought of it simply becaue when I'm writing I spend more time inside the spankee's heads than inside the spankers.

Also, as people have said, fair/unfair aren't obvious distinctions. In my story the hhead teacher is oppressed & blameless, but in my head she's also just a bit of a self-righteous bossy irritating I-always-know-best kind of person, & therefore 'deserves' a comeuppance. I don't know whether this comes through in the story, though

I have just read "Miss Michael's Mistake" by Imogen Hart. It is an excellent example of unfairness and that unfairness makes the story even better in a dark, twisted way.

First of all, thanks to tiptopper above for the kind remarks abut my story.

When I write, I'm fascinated by the psychology of the punishment, and so, by and large, try to steer away from the ubiquitous 'naughty girl spanked' approach. I'm very interested in unfair spankings, also in dynamics such as revenge, or instances in which normal or perceived authority figures are on the receiving end of punishment.

When the spanking is unfair, the victim can either respond with wild resentment or with grudging, docile acceptance, all of which is dependent on their own fatalism and views of their own position. Does one thrash around during the spanking, or take it stoically and plan revenge?

Having read the thread I'm now intrigued by the dynamic of a woman in an 'undercover' role, having to take punishment to stay in character. This has sparked the idea for a new story!

Keep us informed on that via the Plugboard, please, Imogen! It's one of my favourite situations and poor Detective Constable Aashi Bhatt was placed in it not only in "Silver, Blaise" (paid for spanking services disguised as a country club) but also in "The Sign of the Broken Cane" (blackmail at a strict girls' school).

But thematically, the heroine is punished not because of her misdeed, but because of her "naughty" desire to be spanked.

This theme is regularly explored by John Benson, whose heroines tramp the circle between wanting to be punished for having inappropriate sexual feelings, engineering that punishment, finding it arousing, and then being driven by the punishment arousal into the very behaviour she knows she should be punished for.

Without the essence of unfairness in a spanking story there would be no dramatic tension, apart from the possibility that the culprit might get away with it. If there were a set punishment which everyone understands (except possibly the reader) then to have it exacted is scarcely a surprise. For this reason we add extra humiliations or severity when writing the basic infraction-punishment type of story.

After one has written that story a few times it palls, so other devices need to be employed to make a spanking story interesting. Some writers overcome this by ever increasing levels of severity and unfairness which reaches a Yuk point after a while.

The characters in my stories are often punished unfairly but their tormentors usually get their comeuppance. Judging by comments received, readers enjoy it when the villain of the piece gets his/her just deserts.
