There are a lot of stories I've liked over the years and I have them all on my hard drive. Many are by folks who no longer post anywhere. Also I find I've taken to editing some that I like that I felt were "almost" really good. So here is a question. How does this board feel about posting edited stories where the author can't be found? I'd certainly give credit, but I'd like to bring some of these to the attention of a wider audience. BTW I have many of the "Sceamin' Eagles" stories discussed above.

I have the " Screaming eagles" series on my pc. I think I may have the complete series around 27 or 28 chapters

There have been several mentions on the forum of the stories of Daria Little. We have been trying to contact Daria for the last three years, without success. All we can glean is that she has 'left the scene' and has not written spanking stories for over a decade.

Our policy, as our authors will attest, is not to load anything without the permission of the author. However, given the level of interest in Daria's stories, and their availability elsewhere on the internet, we are going to archive them in the library, starting with 'The Screaming Eagles' series. Both the copyright and authorship will be credited to Daria Little.

We believe that Daria would be happy for her stories to be shared amongst a wider audience. If this proves not to be the case, we will of course remove her stories from our archive.

So - for all the Daria Little fans out there - enjoy!

Violating your own policy??!! <gasp!> I'm TELLING.... There ought be some spanks in this for SOMEone.

(actually - a good decision, and a problem easily remedied if the author should show up to object)

Terrific! I have a few Daria stories around lying around here, including some early ones that I haven't seen posted online anywhere.

Now...what about old novels with stories. These books are about 30 to 40 years old. Some of these stories are terrific. Three authors, that I remember, were Jack Warden, Will Henry, and Guenter Klow. The publishers are long gone. Also, "MR." magazines, letters to the editor. Great letters. "MR." is long gone. Does anyone have any of the old novels or Mr. magazines?.

From an author's perspective - I wouldn't mind editing of obvious mistakes (grammaer, spelling, omitted words, etc), but I'd have a problem if somone decided to make my stories 'better' though editing. My stories are what they are. The fact that I can't be found could mean that I'm dead, not that I stopped caring about my literary efforts. On the other hand, since I don't write sequels to my stories, if anyone wanted to write a sequel to anything I wrote, I'd say go right ahead. I'd consider that a compliment, but tampering with my stories is something else. This is just one author's perspective.

Hi rollin

Good question - and a tricky one!

The library admins perform a light edit (where required) on all the material that is archived here in the library. So if your own editing process is nothing more than the correction of a few typos and punctuation/syntax errors, that's fine. But if you have substituted or removed words, resulting in altering the meaning of the story, altering the ending etc, then that's a route we wouldn't go down.

And with all due respect to yourself, we would endevour to contact the author ourselves, amassing evidence along the way of the different email addresses we have used, and building up a small portfolio of facts gleaned along the way.

Unfortunately there is a small faction of vindictive people out there that deliberately try and cause trouble for us, who would scream 'copyright violation' at the top of their lungs and make every attempt to try and get us shut down. We are aware of our detractors but are not fazed by them as we make every attempt to act ethically and responsibly.

No, when I say "edit", what I really mean is "derivative work". I have several stories on my drive right now by authors who are either unknown or who seem to have dropped out. One is by Brian Houlihan. Does anyone know Mr. Houlihan? He wrote a terrific mostly F/M story called "The Boarder" that had some M/M elements to it. This is what I changed, making it F/F, F/M. Same with one called "Adult School" author unknown.
BTW fears of the copyright police are greatly exaggerated. At most you might get an email demanding removal, but I would bet that these stories are unregistered works. I do admit, however, that not being a webmaster I don't know what kind of grief copyright complaints bring for the host. Legally however, there is little risk here for one big reason---no registration, no statuatory damages, and actual damages are non-existent.

Well I did try and administer some spanks to the Head Librarian with something suitably stingy for going over to the Dark Side but she came at me with a kitchen knife so I decided it might be better on this particular occasion to just turn a blind eye to it
