I just heard Maureen O'Hara has died. I thought she was a great actress esp. in spanking movies. She will be missed.

I don't know that either McLintock! or The Quiet Man were "spanking movies" per se, but they certainly raised the collective antennae of those of us who are "in the scene". Also, they were very much "mainstream" and could be enjoyed without anyone getting suspicious of our inclinations, if one were worried about that. As I recall, the Duke never spanked her in The Quiet Man, but the threat was there, including one scene where a local woman gave Wayne "a stick to beat the lovely lady with."

That aside, she was truly a lovely lady and beautiful (and sexy) to boot. Her first role was as Esmeralda opposite Charles Laughton in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". She was eighteen and never lovelier. She remained "a lovely lady" for the rest of her life, and a pretty damned good actress, even though she was never really challenged in most of her roles. She was a movie star, pure and simple.

Requiescat in pace, lovely lady...

Maureen O'Hara like her flaming hair, she sometimes had a flaming spanked bottom from some of Hollywood's leading men. Yes, this beautiful lady of the filmdom, will truly be missed. Thank you Maureen for giving us 'spankos', some delightful moments.

Maureen was for ever the most evocative and exciting Star of her period. Always horses for cowboys, extra elegant feisty lady and a forerunner of all we now expect or hope for from and top and bottom lady film stars. Enjoy peace, it's well earned!

Yes, a lovely flame-haired lady, and recipient of probably the most famous spanking in mainstream movies (though Kiss Me Kate must run it close). Though I always wished that both Waynes, father and son, had used their hands (as per that poster) rather than the clumsy coal shovel.

Maureen also received a one-swatter from Henry Fonda in the 1963 film Spencer's Mountain (from which the long-running TV series The Waltons was developed).

Her autobiography, 'Tis Herself, makes lively reading.

Btw, The Hunchback wasn't quite her first role, Bogiephil. She was in three movies before that, including Hitchcock's Jamaica Inn - also with Laughton.
