Many moons ago there was a discussion about "reskinning" superheroes.
I started to write a story inspired by Batman, but it twisted. It turned out that most of the good was being done by the billionaire, not the "Hero".
The cast of characters:
The Heroes:
Oswald Sinclair - Billionaire crime fighter - Owlman
Rick Sinclair - Oswald's young orphaned cousin and ward - Owlet
Cassandra Evans - geek girl who makes the tech work - Tech Support Girl - yeah, she has a code name and a costume that she rarely needs.
Peter Jones - the Sinclair family butler - AKA Jeeves
Julie Borden - Owl Girl - a wannabee heroine whose father is the chief of police.
The Amazon - a traditional Amazon with serious Daddy Issues.
Max Lang - The Teal Sorcerer - an ordinary man who possesses one of the Teal Amulets (which needs recharging in the Teal Caldron). Has vast powers, except against the colour orange,
The Villains
The Jester - a clown criminal, or criminal clown
Colombine - the Jester's comic relief girlfriend, who's always up for spanking or getting spanked.
The Puzzler - he sets forth a puzzle. Pass it and you leave with your goodies. Fail, and he gets your stuff - and he has to spanks you. Not because he wants to, but because he has to. He also offers his Henchmen benefits, including medical and dental.
Pamela Smith - Poison Sumac - mistress of plant powers derived from dark science and poison sumac (not poison ivy).
Katrina (Kitty) Chambers - Cat Lady. She has cat based powers, and commits crimes to get the money to rehome her great-aunt's cats. There are dozens of them. Her costume smells like cat pee.
The Judge - gives the Jester and Colombine competition for the title of "craziest villain in the city". He flips a special two-headed coin. If ancient goddess of punishment lands face up he administers. If an ancient goddess of youth lands face up, then it was just a youthful indiscretion (even if the "youth" is a senior citizen).

Chief of Police Edgar Borden - who doesn't know (or care) the identity of Owl Girl.
Nellie Newberry - a teenager has relatives such as Knuckles Newberry. Limping Newberry, and Walnuts Newberry. Yes, they are all in the Mob (one of three mobs running the city). She doesn't understand why everyone is afraid of her relatives.
Old Tom - a cat trying to make a new friend
Cindy Page - a waitress / actress working the fundraiser.
Bradley"Bulldog" Drummond - A rich man with plan.
Amelia Drummond - Bradley's 20-year-old daughter, who is in on the plan.
Elvira Drummond - teenage sister, who isn't in the plan, but wants to date Rick Sinclair.
Nicole Nash - One of Bradley's assistant, who plays a key role in the plan.
A group of wannabee gangsters.
Random people at a spanking party - Because there are times the Amazon needs to blow off steam.
Maybe a few goddesses, who don't do much.
The setting: Baldwin City's largest annual fundraiser, the Morris Memorial Ball. Happening at the Sinclair Morris Auditorium and Baldwin Arena. This year they are encouraging cash donations, with the fund starting at five million dollars in hundred dollar bills. Much (if not all) of that money comes from corporate donations that were channeled through various cutouts from Drummond's corporate empire.
It is a long story, one in many short parts. I hope others enjoy it. |
