I used to love Captain Pugwash, but I haven't seen it shown for many a long year. I was told the other day this is because the writers sneaked in lots of adult humour. For example, there were characters called Master Bates and Seaman Staines. This would have been completely over my head as a child, but I suppose modern children are a lot more savvy about such things.

Urban myth which the writer sued a couple of media outlets for printing.

Thanks to the above who have corrected my misinformation. Thinking about it, it does seem extremely unlikely that those who controlled TV output at the time would have let it pass. I'll check my facts more carefully next time.

Don't be sorry, Alan. I for one enjoyed a good laugh. Was there a barmaid in the tavern called Rosie Cheeks? Or is my fading memory just playing tricks?

What, a fair maiden in a tavern with those salty seadogs, that grog has muddled your brain cells.

There once was a barmaid from Sale
On whose breasts was the menu for ale
But since she was kind
For the sake of the blind
On her ass it was printed in Braille

Many thanks for the link, Februs - I didn't know the snopes.com (urban legends) site, but it looks highly entertaining.

Yep, it must have been the grog. My eyesight isn't what it used to be either.
