I'd hate to be one of the surviving players. With all the superstitions surrounding sports, I wouldn't put it past an unstable "super fan" to try to resolve the curse by eliminating those two remaining players.

Really Bob, you sound like my husband. The NY Jets haven't won the super bowl since 1968 and he still follows them.

Goodgulf: A horrible thought, although the one surviving player is such a hero that I doubt even the most deranged supporter would stoop to such levels.

Regina: This is what true supporters do. A man might change his wife, but he could never change his football team. I guess it is a male thing.

I am not sure everyone has grasped the point of the story. It is not just a tale of heroic failures and bad luck (as shared by other sporting teams), but the belief that they have now lost 11 finals in last 32 years because of a curse by a Catholic priest 70 years ago. Oxford's Benfica story is the nearest equivalent. (The Catholic Church incidentally denies there is a curse as it is not in the business of putting curses on either people or football teams).

You never change your team, Bob. Thick and thin, and if you’re lucky you get more thick than thin. My own football (Aussie Rules) didn’t win a Premiership for 37 years (between 1980 and 2017), only made finals 6 times in the intervening years, then won in ‘17, ‘19 and ‘20. Melbourne the team I mentioned earlier were believed to be suffering from a curse over sacking their coach back then.

Don't forget...the BoSox also won the World Series in 2018 for their fourth of the 21st century.

Sometimes people do change their team-when it leaves the city where you live for greener pastures elsewhere. Many Brooklyn Dodger fans refused to follow the team aftet it moved to Los Angeles in 1958
