I'm in several Facebook groups with fellow spanking romance authors, who were, as a general proposition, critical of the book. A few have seen the movie and the verdict was "not as bad as you might have thought, but not much heat either."

I can only speak for the books, which I thought were an embarrassment. Obviously millions disagreed or didn't care. As for the film, the consensus amongst people in the BDSM scene I talk to, who live the lifestyle, rather than merely writing about it, is that the film is every bit as bad as the books. Personally, I'll be avoiding it.

I'm with you, Feb's. It's 90 or so minutes of my life that I can think of better things to do with.

I haven't read or seen it, and based on comments here, I probably won't waste my time. But with all the attention it's getting, maybe I should write one and call it "Fifty Shades of RED."

Guys, guys....you're all judging a film you haven't even seen! That's a little unfair, don't you think? It is a mainstream film with an otk spanking in it (I hope) and the classic line 'if you were mine you wouldn't sit right for a week!' That alone sells it to me.

Now I have admitted before on this forum that I enjoyed the book. I know that puts me firmly in the minority but so be it. In fact I'll say it again....hello everyone, my name is mini and I enjoyed reading 50 shades!

I have a ticket to see it on Sunday. Yes, I am prepared to take one for the team and go see it. . I will then report back to you with my findings.

Let's be honest though - who really thinks that McLintock is a good film? It has become a classic because it features a great spanking. Maybe the same can be said for 50 shades.

I read all three books and it is chick-lit. Very badly written chick-lit at that. The film will therefore be a chick-flick with even less of a story-line than the book and I will not be wasting my sixpence going to see it.
The author's assumption that all people who like spanking are damaged goods is really very worrying. Not just Christian, but his previous mentor/mistress and the only one of his subs actually mentioned by name.

Nope.

It is a Twilight-based romance with hints of BDSM thrown in but never realised, showing that the author actually has no knowledge at all of "The Scene".

If you are a female whose "inner goddess" does a somersault at the mere mention of a riding crop, a blindfold or a man with a grey tie, then wear a nappy and go see it! If you have experienced spanking, either as a giver or receiver, don't waste your money, you will be sorely disappointed and not only that, you will be perpetuating horrendously erroneous stereotypes of spankers and spankees as people whose pleasure in spanking comes from being abused as children which has left them permanently (Unless you are Christian Grey and are rescued by a clueless Klutz with whom Disney style you have fallen madly in love) Mentally disturbed and pitiable.

I would be the first one to admit that if I was going to publicly post one or more of my spanking stories on this site, I would likely go with a M/F rather then F/M mostly because of the public preference for that type of story. I would also be very careful how much spanking I put in the story as again the public would demand there be limits on the spankings. This would be true especially for the first time I went public.

In other words, I would be subject to what I think the general public wants and would accept, regardless of my personal opinion. Now I could submit public stories that do exactly the opposite to what the public wants or accepts and I would get no where in achieving the idea of having my spanking stories go public.

This is exactly what the book and the movie are doing IMHO. It could be just the start of a whole new era in the way spanko world is looked at. That first look is far from perfect and not acceptable to dye-in-the-wool spanko's but it is a start. I am a believer that with the success of the book and the movie (both made or are making millions) the scene will be much more on other books and movies and more likely much closer to the truth as time passes and general society becomes more accepting.

Well, that all depends. I would imagine a lot of women would enjoy reading a story and seeing a movie about a man getting his butt whacked by a woman. It's a shame more people (in this case the women) don't frequent the forum as much. It would be great to see their point of view on this. Opinions are best noted when they come from a crowd rather than just a few people and few genders.

This is quite an interesting discussion and we did see a F/m play in New York City. It was an off Broadway theatre and I remember the theatre was quite small. However, for spanking the acoustics were fine and the dialog understood in the audience.

I remember there was no leather corset and skirt or whip. The woman doing the spanking was dressed like the mother on Happy Days in a long brown plaid skirt. they played Rock Around the Clock before and after the act play. they even had a fifties chrome table with red padded chairs.

Her man had brown corduroys and briefs on before his bottom was bared. He had failed to take the train to a job interview for the third time! It was difficult to see his butt as it reddened from a hairbrush, but his reactions certainly sounded genuine. After his spanking he explained his angst of not measuring up and getting the job.

A sweet coming to terms with her son's fears without the ridiculous leather as seen, so often in movie scenes.
