I see that Flopsy is not far behind that number, despite having less than half the number of Dr. Grace's stories. I would suspect that it's only a matter of time before she takes the lead.
As a tangent, I am quite sure there is a positive effect on author's overall comment tally by continuing to write and present new items for publication, therefore having their name on the "Latest Loaded" page. I suspect readers who peruse a current selection and find an item they enjoy are then more likely to go to that author's page and look through additional selections. Authors who do not have current works up are only likely to be found with a bit more work by readers - the story search function, looking at statistics pages, etc.
There are some other interesting possibilities for metrics involving comments, some of which might have causal relationships that speak to the "commentability" of a given author, including favorites, views, etc. |
