I'm posting it on this board because I'm mentioning the name of one of my stories.

I didn't notice that the "hero" of a series I'm posting, Jake Talbot, had an identity crisis, but the validator did. At various sections in part 3 Jake became Jack.

Yes, I suck at proofreading my own work, but missing that? That's embarrassing.

I find proofing my own work to be a challenge, since I will read something to be as I intended it rather than what I actually wrote.

And as for thanking the validators, they deserve it.

You're darned right you couldn't manage without them... which, of course, is why they remain shackled to their desks in the LSF dung... er... basement.

Agreed! As a reader, I'm grateful for all the work that goes into providing synopses and in classifying all of the contributions. As an author, I'm reliant on the validators to provide a worthy effort. Grateful thanks for all the work they do.

Even if I did put one in a precarious position in "Break In," she handled it as well as they all handle our stories, this site wouldn't be what it is without them. I know I suck at proofreading my own work, as I see what I expect to, not what I actually wrote, my stuff really would be dreadful reading without them.

To all of our faithful validators, "this butt's for you." No, no, no, "I raise this libation in your honor," there, that's better.

I'm the same. I have to allow a story to "age" until it is out of my mind before I see what's really there. The big things that I can't see? Tenses, suffixes, and missing words.

As a reader I'm probably too demanding, but sometimes characters' names changing can really infuriate me.
I can't remember whether it was in this Library or somewhere else where I had the misfortune to encounter a complete name swap between two characters.
Sometimes I have problems in dialog with understanding who is saying which line, but when the author swaps the character names with each other, and that only becomes apparent a little later, then it's really confusing.

I thank the validators for catching the things they catch, but they are unfortunately only human and so miss quite a few name changes as evidenced by those turning up even in some of the published e-Books on this site.
