I would like to comment on my story, "In Charge".

It's an extremely short story, probably the shortest one I've ever written. For those who haven't read it, I'll summarize the plot:

A pair of young parents come home from a night out, after having left their 13-year-old daughter "in charge" of babysitting their 8-year-old daughter. Upon returning home, they learn that the 13YO spanked the 8YO for not going to bed. They then spank the 13YO for spanking the 8YO.

Many of the comments I've received have pointed out that the 13YO daughter is never going to want to babysit her little sister again, after the parents basically undermined the authority they'd given her.

I will confess that I am not a parent. I was 36 when I wrote the story, and I'm 48 now, and I still have no experience as a parent.

But that was kind of the point.

I am the oldest child in my family, of my generation. I'm my parents' oldest child. I was the baby who made both sets of my grandparents into grandparents, and made my aunts and uncles into aunts and uncles.

I got the "benefit" of all of those people's inexperience. And I suffered from that inexperience well into my teenage years.

So picture that 13YO daughter in my story, being left to babysit her little sister for the first time. Her parents have no idea how their instructions will be interpreted when they leave her in charge, because they have no experience.

And so they fuck up.

That's all I have to say about that.

Nothing wrong with the comments pointing out the 13 year old will likely never want to babysit again.

Maybe the parents did screw up or not, but it does not change that in many peoples opinion the 13 year old will likely not want to be in the same position again. If the parents screw up the family has to live with the consequences. That could be a part 2 of the story or it could be left as is, that is up to the writer.

The story brings out that maybe not every situation is fair and sometimes things do not work out the way many people feel they should. Those things create comments, which is what many authors wish they could get lots more of.

That is all beside the point. The point is you wrote a good story and got comments. It was a well written story and likely told a situation that may have happened in real life in many families.

Exactly. Every spanking isn't fair.

True! I like to think that parents almost always have good intentions towards their children, but that doesn't mean that they always make wise choices. The perfect parent hasn't yet been born, so there is no reason for us to depict perfect parenting in our stories.

One of my stories, "SpankFight" contains a parenting idea so unwise that I actually included a disclaimer. Who knows what comments I would have received if I hadn't done that?

Rik, I am sorry you were upset about the comments on your story. I am afraid I was one of those commenters who said she would not want to babysit again. I really enjoyed the story and didn't mean to upset you but that is what I thought when I read it. I really enjoy your stories and don't want you to feel unappreciated because you are a great author.

Having a Forest Gump moment?

Seriously though, don't take it personally when people disagree with you or point things out that seem wrong to them. I know it's difficult when someone tells you your baby is ugly, so to speak, but you can reply to them individually through the pop-up function and explain there privately and only to the ones who've criticized the story.

Don't sweat the petty stuff (and don't pet the sweaty stuff)...

No worries, I'm not upset about the comments. I just wanted to clarify the idea behind the story a bit. And there were too many to send individual popups to ;P

I try to portray both spankees and spankers in different ways in different stories. I have another story, called "Learning", which is an ongoing series (that I cannot post here for various reasons). The two main characters are a pair of girls, aged 14 and 15, who are best friends. Both girls are the recipients of frequent, severe spankings from their parents, and one of the major themes of the story is the dramatic differences between the 14-year-old's parents (who are borderline abusive and seem to enjoy handing out the spankings a bit too much) and the 15-year-old's (who administer the discipline in a detached, businesslike manner, and get no enjoyment from it).

I just read the story "In Charge". I tried to post a comment below the story but I couldn't seem to get it to work so I'll post my comment here. First off, I really enjoyed the story, it is well written. I do agree with Guy that the perfect parents haven't been born yet and these parents demonstrate that. My opinion is that the older sister did not deserve her spanking. She was put in charge and when her little sister would not obey, she took the same action that her parents would have. The little sister even admitted that she deserved her spanking which was only five swats by hand to her bottom.

I'm not sure that the older sister will never baby sit again but next time the parents should be very clear about the rules and consequences. Again great story Ric and hope to see more in the future.

Just a personal opinion but I sometimes think people take these stories much too seriously. I would think you read these stories for fun, entertainment and yes, sexual excitement. That is the essence of fiction writing. To allow your imagination to take flight and see things or worlds as your minds eye sees them. Both good and bad. I enjoyed Riiikspanks story, I understand the situation isn't plausible so what?
